Like I said, I realise some of them were just jokes, banter is what we do, but there is a genuine sense of hatred in that thread.

I don't get the whole thing about "what do you expect?", as though we should feel bad for leaving a union that takes away from us in return for sweet fuck all and being attached to a country full of people who hate us for spending our own taxes (which they actually believe are theirs) on things we want for our people. It's like slave owners lynching black people after slavery was abolished. Sorry for not appreciating your oppression enough.

That is the exact sentiment that annoys a lot of English people; comparing yourselves to slaves and the English to slave owners.

Well - Ed Miliband certainly doesn't mind comparing Scottish Independence to Southern Secession.

Bloody hell, slave owners? You want some vinegar for that chip on your shoulder?

The bad news is that this kind of sentiment tends to persist.

It's really not like that though is it. You really can't make that comparison.

I personally think you're being a bit too sensitive. Almost all of those are jokes or some variant of "I want Scotland to stay but if they leave I want them to have a hard time" - both of which shouldn't surprise you.
