Looks like the button was moved.  I hit the 3 dot settings button and the refresh is right there. 

The button was moved from the address bar to the menu.  Instead of one touch to refresh, it's now two touches.  Ditto for two touches to stop a page from loading.  Very inconvenient.

Extremely incontinent that the refresh button was moved. I am serving to another browser if this is not resolved soon. Very inconvenient.

I would suggest that if you find this to be an issue that you not only comment here but open up your own issue as well. If there are more issues active, they will have to address this bug.

Ugh. Just put the damn refresh button back.

It's now a 2 - step process.  Press the menu button and click the refresh symbol on the top left.

That's the bug. It used to be a one step process. Adding no functionality and making the product harder to use is a BUG!

My decision to buy a $500 Android device was based in part on the fact that I found the web browser convenient, in the form it was presented to me in the store. Google has no right to deliberately degrade my valuable property.
This new bug is especially painful if the requested site is hard to reach. Usually, I'd hit 'reload' several times until the page is loaded properly. With the reload button buried in the menu, it now takes forever to load such pages.

Irritating on several counts - updating my phone without asking me and then removing functionality I found useful.

Bring the refresh button back now, please - it strikes me as arrogant to act in this way.

Very dumb to move and hide the refresh button. if this is not resolved soon ill migrate to another browser that is smart enough to keep the refresh button for easy user access.

Change the windows box and put the reload/stop button, the windows box is duplicated, you can get the same result sliding the address bar...

Very inconvenient. I wish Google wouldn't try so hard to minimalise and simplify every GUI, it's not a crime to have a few necessary buttons visible at all times!!

Its definitely a bug or the developers must have gone crazy to make people's life more difficult.

The forward and favorite buttons have seldom use, so I absolutely understand their placement in a context menu.

The refresh button is necessary, and often used; please place it on the address bar, as hiding it is not a feature. It's a bug.

Entirely remove the tab button so the URL fills the entire bar, then put a small reload button back like before. The reload button is extremely useful, but the tab button is entirely useless because it's to the same effect as swiping down on the bar.

Sometimes I really wonder what goes on in their minds to actually think that moving the stop/refresh button was a good idea. And to think that the idea was approved by their bosses too. 

The back button is very important. .. much more important than the refresh button. . Fit refreshing one can still click on menu and refresh. .. but now one can't go BACK at all ... Google. . Need the back button on chrome else a whole lot of people would stop using this browser

Moving the refresh button was a bad, bad idea. I'd like to see it put back to its former location.

Back button wasn't so important as you cab always use the back arrow at the bottom odd you're screen

Always used the back button to go back pages or back to the initial search. Now when I first start chrome, I can't go back a page from where I'm at. Using the permanent icon on my phone will just close the browser. Wish I hadn't updated.

few month ago i left the beta version because of missing refresh and poor tab number display, now they merged the versions and there is no escape.
please fix it.

No refresh button, and loads the speed dial page instead of bookmarks on startup. These are THE two reasons I wasn't using Firefox. FFS Google.

I have seen this few weeks earlier in some designs and was worrying for it not to make to final version. There is nothing better to do than ruin perfectly working UX in favor of cleaner UI? Seems like hipsters are taking the world...

I seriously never complain on google's forums, but this can't be intentional.  I don't care what goal for simplistic designs you have in mind google, removing essential ui functions isn't the way.  Good lord, what a stupid decision.  

With the generally weak internet connections you get with a mobile phone, pages often fail to load properly or up date..  I use the refresh button constantly..  I definitely want it back.. 

Defintely a step back for usability and convenience. 

I too lost ability to refresh. And it can't be done on the menu either. Man this sucks. Tried Firefox didn't see a way to refresh it either!

The back button on my phone quit working after I repaired the glass and I started using the back button in the browser. Then you take it away?  Not cool, Google.

Ditto for this, and while you are at it on the desktop version take away the stupid search bar from the new tabs page. We have a bloody omni bar to search for shit, I do not need a redundant search bar. Just leave people with choice.

I Prefer the old functionality as well. My experience when commuting is very poor now, pages just keep hanging and the reload i used to use is inconvenient to reach

I assume they are trying to make the UI 'cleaner', but the refresh button in the search/URL bar was very useful. Please bring it back!

Fix this issue NOW. What a stupid decision that does not add a simplification but takes one away. Will go to Dolphin if refresh not restored.

I now have to use 2 clicks to refresh a page? No no no, this will not fly.  Apparently I use refresh a lot, never noticed til it was gone! This is silly,  please bring it back google... Also do away with the silly new Google search/address bar box in the middle of a new tab... this too is silly, and no good.

This is terrible design.  Why would you double the amount of clicks needed for Refresh or Stop?  Some people use these buttons frequently.

I used Google because it came with my phone going back to Opera were it's much faster and customisable your loss

I agree with everyone that it was idiotic to remove the refresh button. I use it a lot and now have to go through an extra step just to refresh the page. That makes about as much sense as wiping before you poop. 

Have downgraded to version 36 till the refresh button comes back, and new tab can display favorites.

My guess on why these unfortunate changes were made?  Drive more google searches through chrome, at all costs.  The refresh button makes it look like a bar where you type an address, instead of a place you just fire a search.  The same goal would explain the growth in height of the bar, and the dumb New Tab page.  They're trying to force search queries over standard address entry.

Guess I'm using a different easier to use browser that isn't so embedded with my Google account.   It was a bad idea for Internet Explorer and it's a bad idea for chrome. 

There's sufficient feedback regarding this issue. "Me too" comments don't add anything useful at this point. You can vote on this bug by starring it near the top left corner.

Is there some data that shows this as an improvement? Can someone from the android UI team own this?

(Posting on moraxian's behalf) I wonder why anyone would consider a bug in the product to be an improvement. The lack of a refresh button on the address bar is a bug. To me it looks like the UI developers forgot it and then jammed it onto the drop down menu when they realized what they did.  I can't believe intelligent UI developers would eliminate the refresh/stop button from the main browser window intentionally.
