Will either be a fantastic deal, where Microsoft will pour tonnes of money behind it. Or it will fall flat on its face.

Definitely going to be Xbox/PC exclusive in the future. EDIT: Maybe not exclusive then.

I don't think they paid 2.5 billion to share future plans with Sony. If you wanted to win a Console War, making Minecraft exclusive to your system is a good step.

While you would be correct, you forget one thing. Any time from here on out, MS is getting money every time Sony players buy it. They have now done something that has never been done yet. They now have a product they own in the competitors store.

The only way MC goes exclusive is if they created MC2 but I can't see that being done for awhile considering how far behind the consoles actually are.

Sure, but right now Microsoft is looking for big weapons and exclusives to win people over from Playstation. Halo is a good weapon, but having Minecraft be exclusive, and locking up the youth segment on your system, would be a pretty big exclusive. If Minecraft is a system exclusive that is a system seller by itself. When MS is currently playing from behind this si a big chance to give them a bigger exclusive arsenal.

Are you honestly suggesting Microsoft give Sony a cease and desist on minecraft and stop them from using the product. Trust me that would make people go against Microsoft rather then towards it.

No, I'm sure they won't stop any current versions from existing. I am saying all future updates and versions on Consoles will probably be Xbox exclusives. So any Minecraft 2, major updates, etc.

Companies buy other companies. That's life. Their buying a very popular franchise, and might make it X1 exclusive for consoles. If they are trying to win a console war that's a very powerful move.

They simply can't make it exclusive to their platform. It makes no financial sense currently and the ramifications of doing that are more detrimental then the financial ramifications.

Future title yes, they will probably be exclusive. Without a doubt, Id on't even have to think twice about that comment, but this title, NO WAY IN HELL does it become exclusive, and if it does, I will be shocked while sitting back popping some popcorn about to watch the biggest shit storm of the century.

Then again, I am curious to see what Sony does... do they pull the game from their store?

Again, not saying they remove Minecraft from platforms like iOS or PS4. I DO think major future updates will be X1 exclusive. Microsoft wants to sell Xbox's. This will get that done, particularly among children. Hypothetical :

"Mom I want the new Minecraft!" "What's it on?" "Xbox" "Ok"

Minecraft is stupid popular among children. Penny Arcade made the argument that Microsoft has bought a generation of children with this. make it exclusive for future upates, sell tons of Xbox's. It's a very smart move.

What MS has bought is a brand, not a game, a brand. Its along the lines of Star Wars and Marvel. They bought a piece of history that can't be touched in terms of how successful it has been. And how successful it will be in the future.

Correct. I agree. They bought more than a single game, they bought the Minecraft brand which is extremely valuable, particularly among children. If you have children, and Minecraft 2 is an X1 exclusive.... there is no longer a choice which system to buy. That's just damn smart on MS part.

Yeah, I have no doubt in my mind, if MC2 is created, it will be console exclusive. Without a shadow of a doubt in that regards. But this game, currently, I can't see going Xbox exclusive. It would be more detrimental than productive.

Of course, I'm not going to dispute that. I don't even think MS will make any changes for Consoles that won't be mirrored on PC. The discussion is if they will make future games or updates Xbox exclusives on consoles, and I am fairly certain they will. That's a big deal.

Mojang's future games will be big exclusives, it'd be bad publicity to take down a game already on PS. MS doesn't need bad publicity now.

Again, I am not arguing they will take it down off existing platforms like Playstation or iOS. I DO think they will make future updates and patches PC and Xbox exclusive. In other words Playstation will keep what they have.... but not get any new goodies.

It's not bad publicity, it's just what happens if one company buys another. It's business.
