Am I the only one that thinks Apple is hurting the market a lot? By selling a phone with crappy specs for a high price, they are showing that the consumer is dumb and doesn't care about how much they pay vs performance, and is more concerned about a name brand.

Personally, this is not a direction I want the market to go. The less power a company like this has, the better. Is it too much to ask that I get a device that's actually worth the money I paid for it?

Specs aren't the only thing that matters when it comes to performance. If you've ever used a 5S, you'll know everything is smooth as butter, and extremely fast. The camera may not have the most megapixels, but the iPhone's unique position in the market allows insane amounts of hardware/software optimization, including camera performance.

Specsheets simply don't tell the full story. Also, find an android phone out there keeps current software support for 4 years. (iOS 7 is still supported on the iphone 4, a device launched in 2010. Granted this will end in a week with ios 8, but 4 years support is pretty great.)

In what way does the iPhone have "crappy specs"? iOS devices are certainly not my cup of tea, but they're generally well engineered, thoughtful products. The screens of the new iPhones have a lower pixel density and less RAM than your typical Android flagship, but high resolution screens and gobs of volatile memory have a noticeable hit in battery usage. And most people will notice poor battery life before they notice the difference between a 1080p and 1440p screen. Many people like and are quite happy with these devices, and they cost what the market will bear (kinda...).

That being said, a good many people would be just as happy with e.g. a Moto G, but don't bother looking at anything but Apple products. This perpetuates the carrier subsidy model, something that I'm unhappy with, but that has nothing to do with the quality or value of Apple products.

what he's trying to say is for slightly comparative lower hardware specifications for camera display and processor we are paying higher price for a similar flagship from say Samsung or HTC.

how are the specs crappy?

The processor and gpu will likely bench top of the line (it usually does).

you didn't answer the question, how are the specs crappy?

Also, what does the profit have to do with anything? Other top end phones cost the same.

again, how are the specs crappy when the processor and gpu are top of the line?

God damn, you still haven't answered the question, how are the specs on the iPhone horrible, if you knew at least something about hardware you should also know that it had one of the best chip if not the best on the market, cores and clocks don't mean jackshit. It is overpriced but saying it has mediocre specs is bullshit. I wrote this same thing tons of time already, it seems like that in this sub there is a lot of disinformation from people who think they are tech experts.
