Rules and Guidelines
Content
Posts should cause viewers to facepalm; obvious jokes, sarcasm, or things you might find in /r/facebookwins are off topic and will be removed. Additionally, a number of content types got overwhelming, and have branched off into their own subreddits. Post the following to their respective homes, rather than here.
- Poorly executed memes belong in /r/terriblefacebookmemes
- Atheism vs sky fundy content belongs in /r/TheFacebookDelusion
- Bad grammar or spelling should be posted to /r/grammarfail
- Age based posts, like naive kids or tech illiterate adults or grandparents don't have a subreddit yet, but they shouldn't be here.
- Same with obvious jokes, and posts about likes/shares/reposts and so on.
Racism/sexism/other bigotry will not be tolerated, though facepalming at them is welcome.
Personal Information
All redactions should be made using colour boxes; no pixelation or blurring, and information should be completely blocked, no letters or bits sticking out.
Facebook screenshots
When submitting a screenshot, remove:
- Profile pictures,
- First and last names,
- Locations/University names,
- Really specific hashtags,
- Phone numbers,
- Facebook links,
- Page names,
- Your own name/picture/whatever else, but
- Public figures can be left unredacted
Don't Link Directly To Facebook, In Any Circumstance
General Screenshots of Comments
When submitting a screenshot, remove:
- Usernames and first/last names
- Profile Pictures
- Anything else you might spot that could locate or identify the people being featured
Youtube Videos and News Sources
No specific redactions are required when submitting youtube videos, or linking to a news article
Comments
- Try to keep comments on topic and relevant to the facepalm.
- Do not harass other users. This includes, but is not limited to, personal attacks, slurs, insults, and fighting words.
- Do not stalk other users. No linking to or calling out another user's posting history or affiliation with other subreddits.
- Trolls are not welcome in /r/facepalm and will be banned with extreme prejudice.
- If you see someone violating the rules in the comments section, do not engage them. This may result in both parties being banned. Instead, hit the report button and message the moderators with a link to the offending comment.
Bans
You might at some point find yourself banned, which, among others, could be a result of:
- Egregious lack of PI redactions,
- Giving/asking for PI,
- User abuse/being an arse, or
- Spamming or being a bot.
If you do find yourself banned, don't worry; it's probably temporary. Send us a modmail. If you're polite and friendly, you could even get unbanned right away!

This chrome add on allows you to take snapshots of facebook statuses, anonymize them, and upload them to imgur.
Social Fixer supports Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Opera. It has similar functions to Status Snapper, asides from the automatic snapshot/upload. Please note while using Social fixer, that if you use the pseudonames, your post will be removed.
