there are two people involved in the case. reddit thinks presumption of innocence applies to only one of them!

[–]GearyDigit 29 ポイント30 ポイント  (2子コメント)

Four, actually, three women reported that the man in question raped them.

Yup, it's not even just a statement of "yeah, unfortunately there's not much courts can do to get proof of a rape so far after the fact, so I don't see how the guy can get in trouble for this anymore." Which is all that's really meant by "innocent until proven guilty."

It's "yeah, there's not much you can do to get proof of a rape this far after a fact so THIS DUMB B**** C*** IS OBVIOUSLY MAKING IT UP FOR ATTENTION AND SHE SHOULD GET THROWN IN JAIL FOR SLANDER." Because innocent until proven guilty. Right.

Like seriously, is she supposed to just stop being mad about being raped because the rapist got away with it?

That thread is poop central, holy jeebus. Do redditors ever give FUCKING RAPE VICTIMS a break? There's so much victim blaming in those comments it gives me nausea.

[–]sparrowmint 5 ポイント6 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Oh they do, but only if the rapist is a visible minority and/or immigrant, or if it's a rape that happens in a country that doesn't have a particularly high percentage of white people.

No, because a large number of Redditurds are rapists or wannabe-rapists.

I just happened to stumble onto this sub, and I am so happy that I found it. I love the concept of Reddit, and I enjoy the mostly intelligent discussions in the comment sections. But as soon as the topic has anything to do with women in general my heart sinks, seeing how much ignorance and hate is spewed over something that should be empathy 101.

Welcome. An agent from the Feminist Illuminati will be along shortly to provide you with your complimentary dildz.

(Since you're new, I'll just explain that we often joke like that because sometimes it seriously seems like that's how Redditors see feminism.)

The top comment is, as always, disgusting:

[...] Fucking bitch. A university is not a court system. These things should be handled in court and NOWHERE else. [+696, gilded]

Sulkowicz did go to the police, and reported that her experience with them was "awful":

"The officer basically treated me as if I was the criminal," she said. "After you've been physically violated the last thing you want is to have a policeman who is high on his own power telling you that everything you've just experienced is invalid".

Adding to that, even if she hadn't gone to the police, "why didn't she contact the police!?" is victim blaming. Why shouldn't university PDs be expected to handle sex crimes appropriately? Why should women be expected to somehow "know" that they will not take their concerns seriously?

[–]sure_mmmkay 14 ポイント15 ポイント  (0子コメント)

That police experience is apparently how reddit wants the police to treat every rape victim that comes to them. Skeptical of any rape claim to the point of denial of victims.

[–]Aristocratic_beggar 9 ポイント10 ポイント  (1子コメント)

I think their attitudes ultimately betray their a fear of victims being vocal about their attack. The underline focus of their aggression seem to be just that, that if a victim speaks out enough someone might listen.

things should be handled in court and NOWHERE else

Redditors of course weren't so adamant to leave it to the courts when it came to the Boston bomber.

[–]samjak 12 ポイント13 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Well yeah, but that was just a terrorist bombing in a major city. False rape accusations are an actual SERIOUS issue.

Men are innocent until a justice system biased in their favor pronounces them the opposite.

Women are guilty of dressing "inappropriately", getting drunk or storing their pictures online. Also, they are assumed to be the instigator when a man hits them.

    Reddit logic.

what's the scariest thing about a white cis man in prison?

    you KNOW he did it.

What a thread. First thing I did was Ctrl+f for all the slurs I could think of. To my utter and complete shock, I found results for all of the classics.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: situation normal on /r/news.

Rape sucks. A lot. You have diseases, mental anguish, sometimes you have physical damage, and women can get pregnant.

    Understatement of the fucking year.

About the rape victim carrying her mattress around school "Innocent until proven guilty. Fuck this feminist bullshit guilty until proven innocent." [+50] and so much more shit as reddit leaps to prevent taking the side of the alleged victim
