I’m really fed up with all of the people demanding “better representation” in magical girl anime. Contrary to popular belief, your race or your sexuality or your body type does not automatically entitle you to anything. There isn’t going to be a sudden spike in magical girls “representing” you just because you went onto Tumblr and said “I’m a black lesbian who watches Precure, so there needs to be a black lesbian magical girl in the next season of Precure or Toei is racist and homophobic.”

"your race and sexuality doesn’t entitle you to things"
fuck off, I bet this same person comes back with "why are so many *such and such demographic* necessary in this show?" unless they are all straight and white. ugh.
Representation is not entitlement, it’s just fucking important.
Lets say something doesn’t pass the bechdel test - that doesn’t make it innately sexist, of course not, it just makes it part of a bigger problem in that there is so little representation of oppressed people in media.
So no, Precure etc isn’t racist or homophobic, but rejecting the mere idea of a black lesbian precure is racist and homophobic.
