Well..........they kinda have a point. The NSA is shitty. Doxxing someone is shitty. And sharing anyone's nudes without permission is fucking shitty. And yes, you're a shitty person if you believe otherwise. Deal with it.

I think it is a jump in severity to go from the NSA to this. The NSA is government funded and approved spying on innocent civilians. This is illegal hacking into a personal account(s) by a criminal that if caught will go to prison for 10 years if the previous celeb phone hacker conviction is any sort of precedent. They both boil down to privacy but they aren't quite on the same level.

It is most definitely a shitty thing to have happen to a person and I feel bad for them. I also have seen a good deal of the pictures.

true, I don't think they are comparable other then the fact they all have to do with 'privacy' I suppose. And yeah, are all shitty things, of course ;3

That's a very tumblrite response. I'm not denying the shittiness of all three, but there are differing levels of shittiness, you know. Doxxing someone isn't just shitty, it is a safety risk for the victim. The NSA spying on citizens is an invasion of privacy, and poses a threat to civilians. Hacking someone's phone and leaking their personal photos is also undeniably an invasion of privacy, not to mention extremely shitty, but it's also preventable. I mean, especially when you're a public figure, your privacy doesn't exist anymore, and anything you say or do will come back to bite you. When you're famous, the content on your phone is basically a goldmine, it's almost an inevitability that someone will try to hack it.

I do hope you stay far, far away from a courtroom.

Hacking into someone's private files is bad, m'kay? The fact that they're famous doesn't change that.

Thank you. I try.

Yeah that's sadly true. But comprising someones personal accounts is a bit more extreme then snapping a bad picture of them at the beach.

I say this all the time and I always get hate for it. When you become a celebrity, you lose your right to privacy and if you can't handle that, don't get yourself into an industry where that's likely to happen.

You always get hate for it because you're wrong.

They're not just public figures. They're real people. Why should you give up your right to exist outside of your work just because you happen to act on film for a living? Where's the inherent link between the job you choose and the right to have some space for yourself?

And besides, if what you say is the case, where do we draw the line? Are we allowed to photograph them on the street? Topless on the beach? At a family wedding? At a family funeral? Are we allowed to sneak into bathroom stalls and photograph them on the shitter? Because that last one is what happened to Kaley Cuoco today, and while it might have been funny between her and her boyfriend (or whoever it was who shot that little bit of video), you can bet your ass it's not funny now the rest of the world has seen it. She shouldn't have to shrug that off just because she got to the top of her career, any more than the head of the National Teachers Union should chill out if someone reads his diary, or the world's premier dentist should be fine with someone going through her mail.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: these are real people. They exist outside of the Hollywood bubble as well as in it -- and if you can't extend to them the same basic humanity that you'd extend to your friends, family and associates just because they're famous, then there's something seriously wrong with your worldview.

So your advice is, don't become successful if you want privacy. Fuck that, that's a shitty opinion and people looking to violate your privacy should be fucking prosecuted no matter how popular you are. Breaking into someone's house and stealing photos out of a sock drawer is just as wrong as breaking into someone's phone to steal photos.

No, my advice is, "Avoid any career that is likely to force you into the public life if you want to maintain your privacy with minimal effort." Celebrities can have privacy, it's just a privilege granted to those celebrities who are willing to work for it rather than a right granted to them simply because they are alive and residing in the United States of America.

Breaking into someone's house and stealing photos out of a sock drawer is just as wrong as breaking into someone's phone to steal photos.

I'm not saying that it shouldn't be prosecuted. I'm just saying that it should be prosecuted as "breaking and entering for the purpose of theft" or "accessing a secure computer system without authorization" rather than "violation of privacy."
