In a previous thread I noticed that the social justice crowd on Tumblr and Twitter has a lot in common with hipster culture. It's an interesting comparison.

Both have a desire to be different from the mainstream in a way that's as edgy as possible, and they use this as an ivory tower to look down on the rest of the world. Both occupy the same niche in academia or post-academia. Both complain to be "misunderstood". Both lack self-awareness. Both are concerned with their status among only their own cliques.

What do you think? How else are they similar or different?
