God, how jaded have I become? I immediately assumed /r/wicked_edge was some kind of edginess meta sub.

You got here first!

Congrats on the win, I was so bringing it here. Is there a mods gone wild type sub?

I at least call thirds!

Ah, another user wishing that their sub enacts a no-moderation policy. I will never understand how people think that would actually function properly.

Reddit is not some gated community that's intended to cater to a specific group. I don't care if you founded the subreddit or how long you've been an active member.

"I don't care if you built and maintained this subreddit, IT BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE NOW!"

When people call for no moderation, I wonder if it's out of naive misguided idealism or if the person simply loves wallowing in filth. Some modetators suck badly at moderating, but thinking the solution is to remove all moderation seems insane to me.

Ya, most the times I see it, there seems to be a 50/50 split between those who position themselves as Brave Defenders Standing Tall Against Censorship and those who genuinely enjoy low-effort stuff. Either way, the end result is that they're actively campaigning for an inevitable tanking of a sub's quality.

i see a great opportunity for some cross sub drama. maybe we can get some /r/Conservative and /r/Liberal redditors in there to have a "literally socialism/you didn't build that" butterfest.

I realize this post is only, at the time of this comment, only 2 hours old, and most of the US is still asleep, but even with that, I'm surprised this one isn't higher (currently 7 points). I don't follow wicked_edge too super closely, but I do subscribe. Suddenly all this vitriol starts showing up on the WE subject lines. Cursed drama, making me read through all these comments to trace back what stupidity happened and if it affects me.

The post title is clever but it won't get anyone's attention really :(

So is a straight razor worth it? I have seen the top posts of /r/wicked_edge and so forth, but I am sure that sub is not unbiased.

Also, this guy makes a good point about punishment and moderation. Small, frequent punishments make more sense than one-strike your out.

So is a straight razor worth it?

It really depends on the person. Are you getting a comfortable shave with what you shave with now? If you do, and you enjoy it (or don't mind it), then there is really not a lot of reason to change unless you want to try something different.

I had problems with disposable razors. They irritated my face, left me with razor burn, and didn't really give me a close enough shave for my liking. For me, a lot of those issues were solved by using a straight razor. It's a much sharper blade, so I can shave a lot closer on my face. Your face may be different.

Additionally, starting wet shaving made me take care of my face. When I shaved with disposables, I had to prep when I shaved. I would shave dry, which was part of my problem with irritation. Having a straight razor made me get used to the process of shaving in such a way as to reduce my irritation.

Again, there is no perfect razor. There is only the razor which works best for you. If you are happy with your current shaving setup, there's no reason to think that you need to change. But you can if you want to.

To be honest, it's a decent enough sub.

I used to subscribe to Wicked Edge, because learning to use a safety razor properly saved me tons of cash. But the sub's 90% "LOOK AT THIS BRUSH. LOOK AT IT. LOOK. AT. IT." so I didn't stick with it.

Which is fair enough, I guess. Everyone needs a hobby, and there's nothing wrong with collecting shaving paraphernalia.

I, too, am for having a group of contributors for whom the rules do not apply. Much better drama potential that way.

It really wasnt anything that crazy. It was a case of people just getting tired of the "I asked for something stupid in my order and the company did it" joke and the user wasnt being a dick to the other user, just voicing how the trend is getting really annoying and it had no place on that sub.

The issue got out of hand when the mod escalated with a response as dickish as the original comment and then getting uppity about it.

Wicked Edge is normally one of the calmest subs you can find and this was out of left field for everybody...I mean, we are mostly men talking about nothing but soap and shavers. The worst it gets is when somebody says a Mach 5 is the best and people shake their head and laugh.

Oh, I know how W_E usually is, I'm a former subscriber. I might even check back in and see if the featherjerk is still ongoing when I've run out of Cella and Personna Blues. It'll probably be a while though.

However, armed uprising is probably the less favoured option compared to perhaps having ragged and the mods work it out on their own. Discounting any issues of personal pride on either sides, of course.

    You don't use Feather blades?????1!!

Yeah this is a super low-key sub. Shaving is, like, completely apolitical (unless you're growing a beard to make a statement?) and uncontroversial so people are like wtf?
