Everybody can't be kept happy. Personally I would rather have those environmental disasters than not have electricity or food on my table.

Disgusting, I bet you will not be singing the same tune if the environmental disaster affects you. Have you ever witnessed one?

[–]adarsh_chutiyaliving up to my username

The one in uttarakhand last year and the floods near pune a few days ago were probably a result of unscientific human activities like deforestation in the name of unbridled development

The Uttarakhand one definitely was. Read this excellent piece: http://cpbhatt.wordpress.com/2014/04/10/the-tragedy-of-uttarakhand-a-tour-report/

The author is Chandi Prasad Bhatt, father of the Chipkoo movement.

Wasn't it sunderlal bahuguna.

Both actually, you could say Bahuguna wad the activist leader while Bhatt the organisational leader.

Oh yeah, that's a neutral source.

So only Modi government is an honest source now? Did you bother reading the report before coming here to spout your intellectual wisdom?

Reply to the question that was asked of you. Why do you think the report is biased? Do you have any evidence to back up your claim?

If not, then don't troll the forum with your retarded logic and inane replies.

Unfortunately, idiocy is not against the rules of this forum.

While the real trolls go around shitting all over the place.

All of you are cut from the same piece of cloth, you are no better than the ones you ridicule and moan about.

How could you criticize our Modi-ji? He has the best interests of the country at heart. Who cares about the environment? /s

He does have the best interests of the country at heart. This may come as a surprise to you, but different people prioritize different things differently. Some people even.... shock think it's important to create jobs in the country!

This might come as a genuine shock to you, but it is possible to create jobs without destroying the flora and fauna of your country.

Yeah. I was responding to his insinuation that Modi does not "[have] the best interests of the country at heart." It is possible for two uber patriots to support polar opposite policies.

Explain please. What is this fairytale economy that can create energy, jobs and food for a billion people without ecological impact while being economically viable?

Come to Switzerland, they have managed to do exactly this. Development while not degrading their environment.

Did you just compare Switzerland to India? Your naivete is astounding and mind-numbingly scary. Landmass, Population, Presence/Absence of Resources, Geographical location and terrain all play a very large part in development/environmental considerations. Stop making knee-jerk statements with no logical and scientific basis. Just stop.

I did not compare them, I gave him an example of a country where development and environment degradation have not been at odds. I realise the vast differences between India and Switzerland; I wanted to illustrate that it is indeed possible to develop a country without destroying the environment.

    Ok then, fair enough.

[–]DaManmohansinghIlya i laurëa ná, mirilya lá, 3

Holy shit, did you just compare a nation with the population of greater Chennai, that has 100% literacy and that has benefited from being the banking capital of the world with the second most population, barely 60% literacy (if you take away functional literacy, the number will drop)? Am sure all the people on my village will straightaway become investment bankers overnight.

Holy shit, read what I meant when I gave the example. I have already stated it here multiple times.

[–]DaManmohansinghIlya i laurëa ná, mirilya lá, 3

Sorry but your post says nothing. Why don't you give your scholarly view on how we are supposed to transition from an agrarian, 3rd world economy which adds 25 million youth to the job poll every year (3 times the population of Switzerland) to a totally service based economy? Should we just sit and pray to Cthulu to give us prosperity? Seriously, how the fuck is India supposed to become like Switzerland? This is arguably the dumbest thing you have said here on this forum.

Repeat after me, we need to create jobs to feed our people. Close to 300 million of our countrymen don't have electricity and still live in the stone age. We need to create a minimum of 15 million jobs a year. You can't do all this without.....environmental degradation.

Psst, I live with the effects of air, water and soil pollution daily, it's not some esoteric concept to me you know.

Different situations if you ask me. The difference in population and general personal hygiene of the population makes a huge difference. Not that I'm saying it's okay to fuck the environment for development.

Yeah, didn't mean to compare India and Switzerland. Just wanted to give an example of a country that has managed to achieve development without destroying the environment.

Switzerland is a small, highly literate country with an economy that relies (among other things) on a rather unusual banking system.

It is not a feasible model for a 1 bn pop country with low literacy and hdi. Unless you have a magic wand that turns those 1 billion into skilled workers overnight, that education and skill dev will have to happen through a slow process. During that process people will need food, energy and jobs. So we're back to the same problem of how to get that economically without environmental impact.

That means education and reducing population explosion should be the top priority of our country, right?

Or we should keep kicking the cans?

As I have explained elsewhere, Switzerland was meant as a counter-example, not as a model to emulate. I am saying that if they have managed to do it, we can too.

So your example isn't really applicable here as the circumstances are completely different.

"they did it so we can too" is an emotional argument, not a rational one. The only way it becomes a rational argument is if you consider the factors governing why it worked there and whether those factors exist here.

why is that disgusting? I just stated my opinion.....i didn't say it was the correct one. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. I don't know why so many people on r/india are so close minded and only want to hear what they believe. Plus did you even read the article? Because I don't think you know what kind of disasters he is talking about

I read the article and you are entitled to your opinion. I just find your opinion disgusting.

Perfect.....I find yours the same way.

So, are you in favor of environmental disasters like excess floods where many people lose their lives, and livelihoods, rivers catching fire, young people suffering from asthma, continuous smog...

Environment and food security are not mutually exclusive.

you could as well have written "I am a chutiya" ...

why? Just because I have different beliefs and opinions? I think you are a bigger chutiya for being ignorant and intolerant.

not all opinions and beliefs deserve same credence, or have to be "tolerated" - for instance, it will be stupid to tolerate or respect "intelligent design". So my disdain for your stupid remark does not make me a lesser person, but if it helps you feel better by thinking so, who am I to put a stop to that?

NO but each opinion disagreement can be handles more maturely than simple saying "chutiya". So if I think your IQ level is -100, i will gladly say that in the form of saying you "chutiya" just like you did.

chalo thik hai, I could have bothered to just give you reasons for what i thought of your opinion, instead of giving the conclusion. chill dude!!! no need to fight with a stranger over internet. Have a nice day. I hope you get food on table and electricity in the chair!!
