No, I don't see her portrayed as justified. I see her portrayed as understandable. This is literally a sequence of events explaining a common phenomenon that not everyone understands. It has no narration. That you somehow managed to find a moral in it, then disagree with it and tie it into your own past suffering says a lot more about you than it does about the comic.

Fair enough, perhaps it does. I have a serious dislike for people who play the victim to excuse their bad behavior. I can see how the comic could be interpreted neutrally. However, I do think it portrays the main character as ultimately a victim, when she really isn't in the last situation. We teach our children about sticks and stones for a reason. Being harassed by black kids in your youth wouldn't excuse assuming a black dude is going to harass you any more than being catcalled excuses you for thinking a random guy talking to you is going to harass you. How you respond to those around you is ultimately your choice.

As a side note, if in high school you told someone mocking you to fuck off, you would have been a misunderstood victim being perceived as a self-righteous douche.

Except that isn't analogous to the comic. The analogy requires the guy I flip out to to be just some other guy who shares a characteristic with the would-be-bully. And in that case, I would've been a self-righteous douchebag, period. You don't get to generalize, prejudge, and treat others badly because others did something relatively innocuous to you.

A misunderstood victim is a soldier with PTSD freaking out on a dude with a water gun. A guy who's flipping out at someone because people who look like that someone or share some arbitrary trait with that someone (like race or sex or orientation) was rude to them is a self-righteous douche.
