3. Bosanquet's theory of the state is clarified by Mr. Kitaoka through the investigation of his view concerning society and individual, a state and its member, and the function of a state. 4. Concerning his view of politics and ethics, Bosanquet, as one of the Oxford Idealists, makes the latter form the basis of the former, thus pointing to the real idealism. 5. Bosanquet is seriously criticised by L. T. Hobhous and H. J. Laski, especially his The Philosophical Theory of the State being the object of their criticism. 6. Bosanquet's reply to their criticism is suggested in the Preface and Introduction to the 1919 edition of his Philosophical Theory, in which references are made to the transition in the theory of the state since 1899,when the first edition of the work was issued, to 1919. 7. As the conclusion Mr. Kitaoka states that despite of various criticism the role played by the thought and idea of Bosanquet in the development of the political ideas in England from the end of the nineteenth century to the beginning of the twentieth is too great to be overlooked.
