Gotta agree. I think the Obama campaign is quite lucky that those last two minutes aren't being splashed across the media today. Not one to usually argue for left-wing media bias, but this seems like some solid evidence were I to make that case.

    Kinda reminds me of the Al Gore mini-documentary that was never released during the 2000 elections. Seeing Gore interacting comfortably with his family was like watching an entirely different person than the robot who went up against GWB.

    If I were a betting man, I'd lay down some cash that Dennis Miller had his hand in this. (Someone else as well, as the jokes didn't fly over, behind, and around everyones heads. He can get a little "inside," but this was just classic killing it.)

      I've not seen the Bishops mobilize like they did in my 30 years or so, and I grew up (and remain) Catholic. They were slighted when Obama reneged on his deal to leave the HHS mandate out, and definitely organized to get their point out.

      I'd say 10% was pretty short, but I don't have anything solid to back that up.

      I seriously haven't seen this kind of mobilization out of the church hierarchy in my life. Kind of pisses me off, because my instinct is to say, "Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah...you rallied for Obamacare, reap the whirlwind..."

      It actually shows the good side of politics, lets you take a step back and see that not everything is life and death.

      I honestly just feel that the simple fact that this portrays romney in a positive light is why it will not be shown.

        Speechwriting for this has to be the toughest of any speech. You want to make the points and be funny, but it can't be too over the top and mean. It's adapting the regular stump speech, coming up with new jokes, all while keeping a presidential decorum.

        Romney and his team did it well.

        It takes some humility to be able to laugh at your own foibles... which is why Barack Obama is pretty bad at it. The only way he can face his own failure is to compartmentalise it as this weird one-off crazy piece of bad luck that just happened to happen on one particular night.

        I have to agree. While Romney had me laughing harder, Obama had some great lines in there as well. The bit about their middle names was great. And Romney's tux joke had me in stitches!

        Some very funny moments, but I felt the whole thing had a tone that just seemed like passive-aggressive jabbing at Obama over politics. Maybe its just me

        Romney's jokes were much more pointed at Obama than vice-verse. However if you go back and watch the '08 speech Obama gave, he had some very pointed barbs at McCain. It's to be expected. It's meant to be in good fun and the only one who loses is the one that let's a joke get to them. This is national politics, you have to take some things in stride.

        This dinner has turned into more of a roast in the last decade or so. And I haven't seen anyone cross a real line yet so I sit back and enjoy it.

        Romney had some seriously good lines that night.
