TotalBiscuit is, like most gamers, quite simply over his head when it comes to social justice issues. They clearly do not have the academic background or the willingness to think through these situations on a sufficiently deep level, and therefore they just rely on their personal experience and "common sense" to form conclusions in a manner that grossly oversimplifies the complex issues at hand. Thus, I must agree that his continued "contributions" (along with those of the quintessential man-child known as InternetAristocrat) to discourse indeed do little but hinder progress.

A methed up junky could understand what's going on at the core.

Game journalism is corrupt. Surprise everyone. That's all you can take from this situation.

While he most certainly isn't educated in the field (which would be what exactly?) there's absolutely nothing he's said in the long tweet or anything following where he describes himself as an Oracle or the person with all the answers. What he had done, as one of the few, is attempt to neutrally describe the events and has called people to calm down till the facts are out.

The problem here is that he has a personality (which you can hate or like as much as you want), and everything's being read through that lens.

I honestly fail to see where this hinders progress in the given case. The "evidence" or lack thereof has to speak for itself. This is a series of different "cases" which are all being rolled into one massive shower of shit. People on both sides of the discussion are incapable of looking at the facts objectively. But once again, I really can't see why the fact that he presents the things and asks for people to be calm and wait for th the facts is hindering the progress.

Truly, why should we let the uneducated oiks discuss these issues? I bet they don't even have masters degrees! Let them toil down the mines and leave us to do the thinking for them.

Call elitism all you want, but there are way too many people, including prominent online personalities, who've never put the effort to research the subject in any serious capacity, and who are content to let their intuitions "common-sense" them through extremely complex issues. All I want to see is people make a good-faith effort to learn about what's at play before they start spouting conclusions.

Games journalists were involved in an undeclared sexual relationship with a developer whose work they subsequently covered for their readers.

There, I've just edumacated the masses.
