Progressive tolerance just warms the heart doesn't it

It would if I could find it.

(I know you were being sarcastic. I'm being bitter.)

[–]FacehAnti-Federalist 41 ポイント42 ポイント

I don't know, I pretty much never post there.

"Tax the churches, its not fair that they aren't taxed whilst other institutions are!"

"How about we don't tax anybody? That would likewise be fair..."

"STONE THE HEATHEN!"

Its so obvious that most want to tax churches as a means of 'punishing' them and not really as a concern for revenue.

[–]SheepInWolvesClothin_★ 8 ポイント9 ポイント

I wouldn't necessarily say that. They think of taxes as being good, or a 'necessary evil' at the very least. They probably think that people shouldn't be exempt from this requirement because of their religion. They're just being internally consistent statists.

[–]FacehAnti-Federalist 1 ポイント2 ポイント

A few of them realize that even without the religious exemption, most churches would fall in the same camp as other 'not-for-profit' organizations and still be tax-free.

But I sincerely doubt that is what animates most of the ones who post and upvote in favor of it. They seem much more concerned with the harm it would do to churches rather than the 'fairness' of it.

There is also a great overlap with those who want Marijuana legalized and taxed. Because we must please the Lord with our sacrifices.

What you do, point out how they use the same arguments in favor of gov't as they Christians do justifying god?

[–]wannabubble 4 ポイント5 ポイント

I got accused of solipsism because I pointed this out haha

[–]theantirobot 7 ポイント8 ポイント

Checking in. It's pretty stupid that they're disallowing discourse between communities.

[–]_eudaimon_ 12 ポイント13 ポイント

I've got to say that this is complete bullshit.

I had a long debate with the moderators about this. I was told that we were part of a brigade, which, according to them, is:

A brigade is when a number of accounts, usually from an outside source, come into a forum to vote on or otherwise influence a post or group of posts. As they are a common trolling technique we are reasonably strict when we find one, hence the banning.

I'm pretty sure that if this definition were applied consistently, /r/atheism would have to ban itself.

I only made a single, one-word comment (I said "rekt."). Now, if the rest of you guys were being total trolls, then I could understand a blanket ban. But, in fact, most of you are highly intelligent, civil people and there was no reason to initiate a blanket ban in the first place. Secondly, how can they justify not unbanning people who obviously were not trolling?

So even the premise that we went over there as some sort of a troll brigade is bullshit. Last time I checked, reddit is all about memes and crowds. Or it could have been a mistake by an over-zealous moderator. But I brought it to their attention, and received replies from several moderators, all telling me the same thing: they unanimously approved a blanket ban. Think about that.

So evidently /r/atheism now has thought-police. Savor the thought: you were banned for you affiliation with anarchism, plain and simple. There is no objective standard by which we were labelled "trolls".

All I can conclude is that the moderators are the trolls, and, to that, all I can say is: what a bunch of statist hypocrites. And I mean that.

[–]samsonkeane 9 ポイント10 ポイント

I thought the banning was a bit strange because I was having a rather interesting conversation, and neither myself nor my opponent were insulting each other or just being annoying/unproductive, we were just going point by point through each others claims.

Statheists prefer a circle-jerk I guess

[–]andkongrero.com 6 ポイント7 ポイント

It's rather distressing that people claiming to be reasonable can't tell the difference between genuine trolling and (what seems to be mostly) other atheists explaining their non-mainstream political views.

For some reason I read this in the most bourgeois voice ever, and it was magnificent.

I didnt know people still used that sub after they removed the ability to link directly to pictures. I quit using it during that debacle along with what i thought was a large percent of other upset users.

[–]Flailing_Junk 1 ポイント2 ポイント

This was the first time I went there since that debacle. I have been subscribed to /r/atheismrebooted since then.

Why would I go there in the first place

[–]andkongrero.com 12 ポイント13 ポイント

Yes. Why? I posted this and just this:

Government is a good idea that is often executed poorly. Anarchy is a terrible idea even when executed flawlessly.

Which book have you read on anarcho-capitalist ideas? If you haven't read any or much, isn't that like a creationist who has never bothered to read anything on evolution?

I wonder if he was banned for the thought-terminating cliche... (BTW, I've had http://mereatheism.com/ up since before there was an /r/atheism...)

[–]RonaldMcPaulfrom my 2014 Obama Fone™ -Liberty.me discount code: "IHATEROADS" 15 ポイント16 ポイント

They go to r/atheism to feel intellectually superior. r/anarcho_capitalism makes then feel intellectually insecure.

[–]empathica1omg flair. freak out time 3 ポイント4 ポイント

I wonder what this person considers a "flawless" execution of anarchy, and when it happened in history.

[–]andkongrero.com 3 ポイント4 ポイント

I don't think he's considering very much at all.

[–]HamsterPants522Autarchist 0 ポイント1 ポイント

I asked him to prove his claim and he immediately stood firm in the position of shifting the burden of proof to me (even though I made no claims). It's clear he had no evidence, he wanted to use whatever I said against me.

[–]ShamAbram 0 ポイント1 ポイント

Hell, I tried to throw a bone with Bakunin and Kropotkin and what have you. Someone shat on Rothbard so I did what I could to make the bridge easier to cross with whatever I had. The institution of slavery still existing, government milking the monsters they create, all that jive.

Maybe it was the hooch, but I was getting a few up votes until the ban hammer gobbled them up. Hopefully someone from that wayward cult found some insight, but I fear they are too far gone for outside debate. Someone in all seriousness used the Somalia line. With that, I've packed my things and bought a ticket.

Farewell everyone. Somalia I come.

[–]audiodadlibancap.so.2 9 ポイント10 ポイント

I got banned too. Check my comment history.

PSA so some of you aware...

Just to be safe, NEVER comment on or vote on any links you see that link to other parts of reddit that you find in this subreddit. It's stupid, but that's the nature of reddit. There are people out there eagerly waiting to accuse us of brigading shit.

For those of you who got banned that was the mistake made. There was a link to an /r/atheism post in that Molyneux thread in this sub.

I wish the mods here were more vocal about warning people of the risks if they see links to other subs, because it results in people complaining about us "brigading" and our people then get banned..

If we had a simple automod script that posts a reminder when links to other subs are posted, it would save us a tonne of trouble.

And yes the same should work the other way around. People from outside subs who brigade us should get the same treatment, so if you see it happening be sure to report it to the relevant folks.

[–]_eudaimon_ 1 ポイント2 ポイント

Getting banned from one of the most closed minded subs on reddit seems like a waste of time.

r/atheism was one of the first subs I unsubscribed.

I had never bothered going to /r/atheism before, but it was fun watching the debate over Stefan's video today.

It seemed that anyone with the spaghetti monster flair was a hopeless state worshiper. Perhaps it's really a picture of leviathan.

Congratz on getting banned

Not on reddit, on that other social media site that shall not be named I don't bother arguing with fanatics anymore unless I am really bored.

[–]HelassaidNo Gods, No Masters 1 ポイント2 ポイント

Meh. It's a former default that got delisted and is full of petulant children barely able to piece together a coherent meme. I wouldn't be so worried.

There's actual atheistic debate and discussion that goes on in /r/TrueAtheism, rather than whatever the fuck goes on in /r/atheism.

[–]The_DerpeningNobody Tread On Anybody 0 ポイント1 ポイント

Nope. I don't even know when I ever went there but my karma breakdown shows +23 comment karma from /r/atheism. I guess that makes me a reddit god.
