It's a four chord song, so I immediately like it less. You can literally sing "Don't Stop Believing" to it.

That doesn't really bug me, so much as the fact that it turns into a fairly generic-sounding melodeath song about a minute in.

Exactly the reason I can't get into them. They're mediocre melodeath with black metal vocals. There's much better modern bands that are labeled as black thrash than Skeletonwitch.

Try their Forever Abomination album before giving up on them. It has some legitimately fantastic songs- "Reduced To The Failure of Prayer" is just one of my favorite songs in general.

Oh god so much this

I hate Skeletonwitch and I hate their stupid clueless fans

Don't be a dick.

You shouldn't dislike songs less because they are four chords, you should dislike them because they are shit.

Who cares if it sounds cool? It's not like they just directly strummed the full chord shapes in sequence for four minutes.

[–]mogifax -4 ポイント-3 ポイント

directly strummed

They kinda did.

Trem picked lines are strumming? Riffs alternating between the open E and individual notes or diads on the A and D strings are strumming full chord shapes? Fills are strumming? TIL.

Who drew the distinction between stumming = not original, not strumming = original? Richard Cheese made "Chop Suey" unrecognizable, but it's still the same song and the same chords.

Picking up a guitar and finding semi-creative ways to play the same four chords is a bullshit cop-out. Doesn't mean there's no place for it, I simply said at the top that when I hear it, I immediately dislike whoever composed it. In many bands it's the guitar players themselves. You can't fault me for not liking four of the most fucked out chords in existence the same way you can't fault me for not liking going to McDonald's for dinner.

You were the one who claimed that they strummed the full chord shapes. I was just disagreeing with you.

Wait. What's wrong with Don't Stop Believin'?

[–]mogifax 3 ポイント4 ポイント

Nothing! I love that song! Journey was some of the first bands to use and even tweak that chord progression, and during their time it still sounded relatively fresh and new as far as pop music was concerned. Now that progression is so very fucked out that I cringe every time I hear it. It would be like loving the original Chucks, but being sad to see so many knock-offs.

Oh, okay. Phew! Crisis averted. Carry on.
