Sangeeta wins silver at Asian Cadet Championships to qualify for Youth Olympics

Sangeeta won silver in Women's 56kg Freestyle at the Asian Cadet Wrestling Championship in Chonburi Municipality Stadium in Chonburi, Thailand.

Sangeeta stormed through to the final of Women's 56kg Freestyle with emphatic wins in the preliminary stages and qualified for Youth Olympic Games later in the year. The top two wrestlers in each category earn qualifiction for YOG 2014 subject to a maximum of two female wrestlers from each country.

Sangeeta was outclassed by Yuzuru Kumano of Japan in the final but managed to extend the match almost to the full distance, losing 0-10 five seconds before the clock ran out. 

Sangeeta was in scintillating form in the semi-final, making light work of Meerim Zhumanazharova from Kazakhstan, winning 13-2 inside three minutes. Earlier, Sangeeta brushed aside Ni Samnang of Cambodia 10-0 in a dominating performance to move into the semi-finals.

Sangeeta's silver brings Indian women's medal haul to 4, with bronze medals for Shrishti on Thursday and Sonu & Nisha on Friday.

Reshma Anil Mane lost to Misuzu Enomoto of Japan in the semi-finals of Women's 60kg weight class. Reshma went on to lose the bronze meal contest to Nabira Esenbaeva of Uzbekistan to return empty handed. While Reshma at least managed a win in the preliminary round, India's representative in Women's 52k, Reena, was eliminated in the first round by Mun Hyon Gyong of North Korea.
