Did some research to see how peaceful Islam is....

Total # of followers: 1,600,000,000

ISIS: 20,000

Hamas: 10,000

Boko Haram: 5,000*

Taliban: 60,000

Al- Qaeda: 25,000

Hezbollah: ?

Total Militants: 120,000 + ?

% of Islam followers that are identified as militant= 0.0075

All figures were found using the wikipedia page for each group. I googled the phrase "number of ______ militants."

*there was a range of a couple hundred to a couple thousand for Boko Haram so I guesstimated.

I could not find a figure for the number of Hezbollah Militants.

I used the highest value provided for each group.

Not even one percent of the religious population is militant, according to my searching and calculations. Probably safe for the followers of Islam to refer to their religion as the religion of peace.

Ok then, how many countries harbor these groups and fund them? How many of these same countries are exclusively Muslim nations? Sure, most of these folks aren't taking up weapons and killing the Jews, but what about public stonings? The cutting off of fingers and other members for various crimes? It's a pretty barbaric world over there, and Islam allows for it, and so do most of the followers. Some speak out against it, but most don't.

Saudi Arabia has been funding ISIS for years now.

[–]well_here_I_amReagan Conservative 7 ポイント8 ポイント

And there's pretty good cause to think that they were funding Bin Laden too. The entire Middle East is full of "peaceful Muslims" that silently watch as their governments campaign to wipe out the Jews and the US. At home they sit idly by and watch as their women are oppressed and Christians are persecuted and tortured. I'm sorry, but the only Muslims that I have found to be following a religion of peace are those that have adapted to Western culture and actively speak out against what's going on in the rest of their religion.

What would you do if speaking out against the sweeping fundamentalist's with guns meant death, or even worse torture.

Move to the US and do it here. And you know, that kind of proves my original point, doesn't it?

[–]dingodego 4 ポイント5 ポイント

How would the average Iraqi move to the US when we barely let any of them in, not even translators who aided the americans, and are in unimaginable poverty. What your proposing simply isn't possible for the vast majority of middle easterns.

Sneak in through Mexico, like everyone else.

[–]well_here_I_amReagan Conservative -1 ポイント0 ポイント

Whoa, when did we restrict this to Iraq? Yeah, it's a bad situation, but there are other things you can do. You can first and foremost not participate in acts of terrorism in any way. You can also voice your opinion to friends and family, right? You can use social media (if you've got it, and you would be surprised who does) to spread how you feel about the movement of your nation. It's the little things, kind of like how most resistance and political movements are born.

But what about other countries where there is more wealth and better travel? There are lots of people here from Saudi Arabia on student visas, lots of professors from Middle East countries too. In those instances, what's their excuse? In conclusion, institutionalized Islam is accomplished by a massive effort of thuggery, everything we've discussed points to that, doesn't it?

I think your numbers are flawed. They have a huge support group behind them and I seriously doubt anyone has the real numbers. You don't have to pick up a gun to be happy that someone else is using the gun on your perceived enemy.

here's what I found on a wiki

Polls taken by Saudi owned Al Arabiya and Gallup suggest moderate support for the September 11 terrorist attacks within the Islamic world, with 36% of Arabs polled by Al Arabiya saying the 9/11 attacks were morally justified, 38% disagreeing and 26% of those polled being unsure.[100] A 2008 study, produced by Gallup, found similar results with 38.6% of Muslims questioned believing the 9/11 attacks were justified.[101] Another poll conducted, in 2005 by the Fafo Foundation in the Palestinian Authority, found that 65% of respondents supported the September 11 attacks.

Those are some scary numbers, and we're the bigots when we inform people.

ask an afghani (you know, the country responsible) about 9/11 and most don't even know about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTKTE368Xq4

the world is...weird

[–]lo_there 3 ポイント4 ポイント

Except that a statistically significant portion of the Muslim worlds supports the violence.

[–]AsterJModerate 6 ポイント7 ポイント

But what % of violent conflicts involve Islam? Here are the top 4 making the news right now:

1) ISIS vs Kurds and Christians
2) Hamas vs Israel
3) Russia vs Ukraine
4) Boko Haram vs Christians

These are conflicts that affect many millions of people. Is it a mere coincidence that 3 out the 4 involve militant Islamists?

[–]oliver_21 -1 ポイント0 ポイント

That's what my point was. Thank you for doing the research!

[–]unalienable1776 2 ポイント3 ポイント

In other news the vast majority of Muslims agree apostates, homosexuals, and adulterers should be put to death.

[–]cgeezy22 -1 ポイント0 ポイント

The % of radical Muslims is certainly much much higher though they may not be militant.

Regardless, the peaceful majority are still irrelevant and haven't done shit to quell the militant. So now we have the peaceful majority allowing the radical/militant to steer their agendas.

[–]anonymousnoone -1 ポイント0 ポイント

You're failing to take into account militant Muslims in countries like India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, England, Norway and France. Plus the countless sleeper cells spread throughout the world, whose membership of the above terrorist organizations is probably undisclosed.
