News crew investigating "racist" app that helps avoid "sketchy" neighborhoods has van robbed. (self.Conservative)

So a few days ago Gawker ran a story on this new GPS phone app that helps you avoid "sketchy" neighborhoods. They said it was racist because and said it made people avoid "black" neighborhoods.

My question is... why is it not racist to say that all sketchy neighborhoods are black? I've been in plenty of sketchy neighborhoods that the majority people were white... and Hispanic... and black. I don't think a neighborhood's "sketchy-ness" has anything to do with the skin color of the people living there... neither does the app (it's crime based). Why wouldn't someone new to a city want to avoid its bad areas? Why wouldn't a single woman walking by herself want to avoid walking through a bad neighborhood? To me the app is warranted.

I just thought the whole thing was kind of ironic.

Black neighborhoods are worse than white neighborhoods. It's a fact, and you can thank the dems for it. Look at Chicago. It's got nearly the worst violence in the nation, but it is not evenly distributed. The whites are not going around with illegal weapons shooting each other up. It's isolated to 2-3 major black neighborhoods. These people have no intention of changing, and that's the worst part.

That was my whole point. None of the app creators equated sketchy to black... only the Gawker author did. I want to know how that is not racist.

  1. was the news crew van parked in a neighborhood which the app would have described as "sketchy?"

Probably in terms of user base, but surely they had some data to start with (crime, etc.) before launching the app?

STL is the 19th biggest MSA in the U.S. The city itself is smaller because ESTL is across the river in IL and several smaller cities are inside the loop (e.g. Ferguson), but the metro area is definitely not chicken feed and certainly has enough "sketchy" areas to warrant a customer.

Think of Vancouver a few years back when they lost the Stanley Cup. They Rioted over hockey. There are plenty of sketchy white places, it's just liberals looking to make an issue out of nothing.
