None of these pictures exhibit the "selfie plus object" pattern which the one /u/bnnyblncofromdabronx linked mocks.

The first one is fucking hilarious

You know how ridiculous it is that people got so worked up over that picture? There's an entire sub against it. It is a joke. And it has some truth to it. I see girls doing this WAY more than guys. Yes, guys do it too. BUT ITS A JOKE. And it's funny if you don't get worked up over it.

it is a joke

it has some truth to it

It should be obvious that you can't say both, but you did it anyway.

that pic is upvoted ANY TIME a girl posts anything with her in the pic.

It's mean spirited. It is not funny. The sheer redundancy of it makes it not funny.

Yes you can

mean spirited

A) it isn't

B) It's the internet

All these things apply to the tips fedora nonsense too, but I'm going to guess you have no issue with that.

I agree entirely, but it's still just a joke. An overused joke that has become senseless. But you can't fight a war against a joke, you're only fueling the fire.

This gets reposted on literally every selfie involving a girl these days and every time people line up to bitch and moan and nothing changes. Why? Because it's a joke. Most people aren't taking it seriously and the endless ranks of anonymous assholes love to see you wage your wars against jokes. It's a pass-time to them.

Please save yourself time and energy. Next time you see this(and you will be seeing this again), just downvote and move on with your life. Your time is too valuable to be wasting on trivial bullshit like this.

One day, this trend will die off on its own. There's nothing you can do to stop it yourself.

Terrible examples

More confirmation bias than cognitive dissonance.

First: those are just pictures of men with animals. They are the object, and are integral to the photo. Second: at most 1/8 of those is a selfie

I'm not here to take a side, but the examples you've provided are quite unlike OP's. A composed selfie with a cat in the same environment says "Look at this cat, also look at me." More often than not, your examples say something different.

http://i.imgur.com/HvAx8vL.jpg "Look at this cat and dog, and the guy responsible for the confrontation."

http://i.imgur.com/i32jtCY.png Valid example.

http://i.imgur.com/rECGUqT.jpg "Look at this cat and his owner, both sprawled on the couch and dressed the same."

http://i.imgur.com/hxu8c5l.jpeg "Look at this cat sleeping on this sleeping guy's face."

http://i.imgur.com/Gp90lKm.jpg "Look at how much they've both changed over the years."

http://imgur.com/a/1Iqgw "Look at these two napping together, and how they do it all the time."

http://i.imgur.com/WWmSVQh.jpg "Look at this cat climbing up this guy's body."

http://i.imgur.com/BdVY1cS.jpg "Look how happy this guy is to be snuggling with a pile of kittens."

It'd be hard to crop the people out of these photographs, and at times it would detract from the meaning. OP's self-inclusion slightly adds to the humor for some people, but takes away from it for others. If the sole intention of the photograph is "Look at this frightened cat in a car," that's all you need to show.
