That is the LEAST important aspect of this debate. Drop it, it's not convincing.

Uhh not really. Imagine if some illegal immigrants brought Ebola across the border and people in the US started dying of it.

Yep, mexicans are going to bring a disease from Africa over.

Mexicans aren't the only nationality of people who cross our southern border illegally.

He thinks that if he turns this into a sanitary problem it'll be ok to be a racist.

He who?

The person who drew this and whoever believes it.

Unless someone says "that race is inferior" the claim of racism is usually bullshit agitprop. Animosity about cultural differences is not racism.

You're right. I think "xenophobe" is the correct term here.

Or chauvinist, which is a pretty understandable reaction to the PC multiculturalism that is the enforced norm in modern America.

PC multiculturalism

Wich is, you know, a pretty understandable reaction to actual racism and xenophobia. In fact,"political correctness" is a fairly new phenomenon, and xenophobia IS the norm in most countries.

I think teaching kids that all cultures are equal, even ones that oppress women, have barbaric rituals, don't practice monogamy etc is ridiculous. If your culture hasn't figured out how to dig a latrine, it's inferior. It has no bearing on your DNA. Also, whites didn't invent war and don't have a monopoly on racism in America, despite what public school teachers would have you believe. Don't come to America if you don't want to assimilate. I don't care what color you are.

Who does that? Who in the US tells their kids "opressing women is ok", or "cut your religious enemies heads"? Other than the usual psychos. That's not what multiculturalism is about. One should be able to evaluate ethically every aspect of the different cultures separately. One aspect of a culture doesn't represent the whole culture, and if you can't make that distinction you become intolerant.

You don't get it, but that's ok.

Agreed, it seems like this is going to become a "bigger" issue considering the recent outbreak of Ebola.

[–]Supervisor_Pants 2 ポイント3 ポイント

There's...actually a fence?

In some parts.

Yup but don't say anything because you'll be in trouble.

[–]IMULTRAHARDCORESocial Conservative[🍰] -3

This is honestly one of my biggest fears in the coming months.

Sad part is it's not even people on the border who have to worry about it. The illegals have been shipped far and wide all across the nation. An outbreak could start in Idaho or Vermont for all anyone knows.

I hate to burst your bubble, but this is a complete non issue. Mexico actually has higher vaccination rates than the US. 99% of Mexican children receive immunization, compared to 92% of US children. Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador also have a higher rate of vaccination than the the US.

[–]IMULTRAHARDCORESocial Conservative[🍰] -1

There's been many reports that the illegals crossing over aren't even being checked. All it takes is one sick person to spread a disease. Look at that guy with TB who went on the run.

By that logic we ought to have disease testing for every person that enters the US legally as well.

[–]Rhode_Runner 2 ポイント3 ポイント

Of course we should!

[–]IMULTRAHARDCORESocial Conservative[🍰] 0

Yep.

Government forcing citizens to take vaccinations and then checking up on them? What is this, Sweden? The fact that a Republican is saying this is making my day.

I'm all for the idea of a more standardized vaccination system but you start off with educating people about why it's happening rather than forcing stuff down people's throats (in this case almost literally.)

[–]IMULTRAHARDCORESocial Conservative[🍰] 3

Republican? Nope.

And who said anything about forcing citizens to take vaccinations? All I suggested that people crossing borders should be checked when they first enter a country.

What should happen when an American citizen is found with TB and scabies when they try to return from a trip from Honduras?

Of course, but what the facts are saying is that illegal immigrants are not where our next outbreak is going to come from.

It's far more likely that volunteers in Africa bring TB or dengue back to the states.

[–]IMULTRAHARDCORESocial Conservative[🍰] 1

That's definitely a concern as well.

I didn't know you can vaccinate for scabies, TB, and the host of other diseases the BP agents are coming in contract with down there. Apparently all those people must've skipped shot day down in the wonderful socialist utopia down there in Guatemala and others.

That is literally the dumbest made-up "stat" (read: Lie) I have ever seen.

From a UCLA study:

Undocumented immigrants are also significantly less likely to report excellent or very good health compared to documented immigrants, naturalized citizens and US-born citizens.

Worse than that ... we'll probably never know.

Imagine some Islamo terrorist wearing their fashion item of choice and self infested with fill in the blank deadly disease of choice blowing his ass to bits in a crowd.

It would be a Bio bomb of the worst kind.
