I personally prefer M+KB in this game, and once you get used to it, it's not that bad.

Yup, controllers are so unintuitive and lacking that it just makes me frustrated to even hold one XD. I absolutely haaaaaaate analog sticks in particular, I can't imagine how some people like analog controls.
A little bit of DSMFix, and AutoHotKey and my KB+M work just as good if not better than a controller ever could for any game hehe :)

In general, KB+M is better for FPS games, while controllers are better for games that don't require much aiming (Like Dark Souls, The Witcher, and racing games). Controllers are much better for Dark Souls.

I find this to be generally untrue, I hear some people say this but it really makes no sense in my head because all controllers have over keyboards in analog...which isn't useful for anything except walking slowly XD.
In fact, if anything RPG's benefit most strongly from keyboards because an RPG without multiple items and spells to keybind just feels lackluster. Maybe peopleused to controllers find it ok to scroll between spells and items, but every time I do I just think "Damnit, couldn't they have made each slot bindable?" XD
It's really just a case of "Anything you can do, I can do better" when comparing controllers to KB+M. The only problem is that naturally KB+M takes a bit of setting up occasionally, but in a comparison the end result to my knowledge always goes to the more open and modifiable object.

But analogue is useful for Dark Souls. Spacing is incredibly important and a controller is simply better at it because of non-binary movespeed.
Also, "anything you can do I can do better"? Tell that to racing games. Or fighting games.
If a KB+M is your personal preference, that's fine. But you can't deny that a controller beats it out in a lot of situations.

I completely agree with you. Sure most of the time Keyboard and mouse in millions of times better than a controller, but in some scenarios controllers come out on top. Dark Souls is one of these things.

To me however that simply isn't the case. If anything, not being locked to a consistent speed so I can judge my movements with pin-point accuracy would likely be detrimental to anything where spatial awareness is required.
I play racing games just fine with a KB+M as well O_o as long as they provide proper mouse support that is.

That's the thing, with proper mouse support the sticks hold no objective advantage because a mouse turns just as easily and especially more precisely.

Hmm I agree with everything being said, controllers are superior sometimes to kb + MN But I played smb fine with the keyboard. All the bandages and all that jazz.

Never played that game O_o but I might try it out to see if it's difficult after a few binding modifications.
However I don't see how it would make a difference. Mice are explicitly designed to give finer input control compared to controllers.

The point we're trying to get across is that it is significantly easier, despite if you agree or not, to move around in Dark Souls with a controller. We know it's not the case for all ganes.
Personally I haven't played DS specifically on PC, but I feel being able to move on a 360 degree axis at any point is crucial later on in the game.
Yes you can do that on a keyboard if you do have it set up a certain way, but it's significantly simpler to push a analog stick up and 20 degrees to the right rather than pressing the forward and forward-right key while letting go quick enough to prevent going at such an angle that you'd miss your swing from a BKGA and end up paying for it.

It's not though, you're describing PC movement as if it's some difficult thing to get precisely move along a specific trajectory, but it's not, it feels both natural and intuitive, far moreso than any controller I've ever played with.
While analog sticks can be pushed 20 degrees to the right, what's to stop you from going 21 or 19 degrees? On something as small and fluid as a analog stick, mistakes will happen far more often.
Hell, I have an entire hand dedicated to making sure my mouse stays precise and on the ball >_> you use a single finger to modulate the entire movement of your character with something that intrinsically has a high likelihood of fallibility.

The beauty of the PC is that we aren't bound to one input device. We can take the only good thing from console gaming- controllers- and use them where they edge out KB+M. Platformers, Fighting Games, 3rd person games, etc. Mirror's Edge for a specific example.

I think it's because if you read down the comment chain OP completely disregards any merit a controller might have whatsoever, repeatedly. This isn't the sub for controller hate.
I don't mind, to be honest. Most people that have posted are provided good counter discussion with a reasonable attitude which I like :D if others want to out of the blue dislike me, that's their right, but it's also my right to not give a flying poop and carry on doing exactly what I doing regardless of what the fuck they want :3

I'm not sure unintuitive is the word, they're both pretty abstract when it comes to gaming. If I could have analogue input on my keyboard for movement I would probably use it a whole lot more.

We like analog sticks because they are a natural evolution of the D-Pad, which is an evolution of WASD.
Overall the game is built for controller, I'm surprised anyone can use the terrible mouse controls.

Except lost the development of something important along the way, a completely free open pointer that can be used to manipulate anything with pin-point accuracy, including both view and direction.
The mouse controls aren't terrible. I mean hell I've done an SL1 run of this game and the second one (twice for the second one, it was a no bonfire run). All with KB+M, and I can't say it's even particularly difficult.
The problem is that just like PC is the open platform, KB+M are the open control input. They will be the best for anything, but you have to mold them into that yourself.

Thats really down to personal preference and what youre used to.
When I started playing on PC games that had a lot of controls tended to hurt my hands since the keys were so spread out and I made a lot of mistakes since I wasnt used to the placement.
Haha I actually had the same thing when I went from my PS2 to PC.
And then I started playing MMO's with rotations, and eventually got into top server and world raiding guilds and clans depending on the game. Now that difficulty seems like a distant memory.
Now because I'm adapted to that I always feel empty when games don't give me buttons to press, or rather the option to tie in stuff to various keypresses.
