Su-25 aircraft was originally designed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau in the late 1960s-early 1970s to provide fire support to ground forces on the battlefield using mostly unguided munitions. Extensively used in military conflicts from the 1980s to the present: the Iran-Iraq War, the Soviet-Afghan War, the Ethiopian-Eritrean war, the two Chechen campaigns and other conflicts in the former Soviet Union.
