Look up racism in a dictionary. The term ‘racism’ is short for racial discrimination. Because racism is RACIAL DISCRIMINATION. It doesn’t require institutional power to be involved. If a white police officer kills a black teenager, it’s seen as a racist crime. If a black police officer kills a white teenager IT’S THE SAME FUCKING THING.

And about institutional power, I come from Trinidad where guess who has all the power. BLACK. PEOPLE. So according to your definition of racism, racism to white people is perfectly possible depending on where in the world you are.

But that’s irrelevant anyway because racism is a form of discrimination.
Just like sexism, ageism etc.

Seriously Tumblr, get your shit straight and realise that everyone is supposed to be equal. Men can be victims of sexism, young, old and anywhere inbetween can be victims of ageism. White, black, hispanic, asian, american-indian can all be victims of racism.

oh dear god. Nice dictionary definition. Too bad its not the definition that academia uses. I highly suggest you read this article. It clearly shows how racism is systematic and institutional. White people have the power in our society and use it to oppress other racial groups. White people are not subjected to stop and frisks, forcible detainment, police brutality, lost opportunities, fewer life chances, and systematic inequality because of their race like other races are.

Trinidad is unique in the fact that POC are in power, but you’re still wrong. Trinidad is mostly Indian and Black people. They were brought over as slaves and indentured servants and then abandoned by colonializing white people. White people CREATED the problem in Trinidad. Now, Black/ethnic supremacy has run rampant in response to years of systematic abuse and oppression by white people. So now, you white boy go to Trinidad, you’re not going to be welcomed with open arms because your ancestors beat, raped, and enslaved their ancestors. You don’t experience racism. You experience discrimination and prejudice. 

Yes, everyone is supposed to be equal. But we are not treated that way in the eyes of the law or society. As a white man, you need to realize how much privilege you hold in order to help make everyone equal. Shouting “REVERSE RACISM” or “SEXISM” at the slightest inconvenience does nothing to help the actual people that are beaten, disenfranchised, or killed because of their race. Grow up.
