/u/Ecka6 says that everything in the corvid family is a crow. /u/Unidan corrected him that jackdaws, bluejays and lots of other 'non-crows' are in this family. /u/Ecka6 at one point mentioned that he's from Ireland, and also that in Ireland the term 'crow' is loosely used to describe many members of the corvid family. It got ugly, and /u/Ecka6 calls /u/Unidan "Americentric," but I think ironically, what happened is that /u/Ecka6 fails to understand that the entire world doesn't also use his native slang of calling everything that's in the corvid family, a 'crow', and so took offense when /u/Unidan corrected his terminology.

If many people downvote him, his account will be throttled, which is the most annoying thing. It's wrong to downvote his unrelated posts, though. But if you were going to do that, you would have to remember that voting directly from the comments on his profile page has no effect. You'd have to go to each comment individually.

But I think /u/Unidan was failing to understand that /u/Ecka6 was just using a slang term. IMHO, the whole thing was just a misunderstanding that got blown way out of proportion.

/u/Ecka6 thought he was using more precise terminology because he was basing his accuracy on the terminology of his local peers. He failed to see that /u/Unidan was not trying to say he was using imprecise terminology, but inaccurate terminology (subtle but important difference). /u/Unidan failed to see that /u/Ecka6 had no idea that /u/Unidan was saying he was inaccurate, /u/Ecka6 thought /u/Unidan was saying he was using imprecise terminology. So, basically they were arguing about different things. /u/Unidan was saying that crows are a specific bird within the corvid family, while /u/Ecka6 spent the conversation trying to defend his position that other birds fit within the "crow family" (he means corvid family, but refers to it as the crow family), and that he is correct in not just calling them 'crows.'
