A friend of mine once said: You know what the problem is with being an economist? Everyone has an opinion about the economy. No body goes up to a geologist and says, 'Igneous rocks are fucking bullshit.'
This subreddit is the repository for all of the woeful, antiquated, or plain old misguided notions Redditors post about how the economy works.
Rule I
-Please post a small explanation on why what you have posted is bad economics, doesn't have to be thesis, but sufficient length to provide context.

Is a decrease in Spain's unemployment figures the product of the unemployed starving to death? (np.reddit.com)

Explanation immediately follows linked comment thanks to /u/abd9344:
You know that starvation is almost nonexistent in the western world right? As in, it is something that happens very rarely in reality. Spain's death rate by malnutrition is less than one per 100,000. The idea that starvation could actually affect the national unemployment rate is so absurd as to be comical. http://www.worldlifeexpectancy.com/cause-of-death/malnutrition/by-country/

Take a look at my comment.
The pessimist in my brain asks if
Are you really all that fucktarded that you can read that phrase and come to the conclusion that this is earnest speculation, and not hyperbole meant to emphasize how bad the economy is?
Oh wait. This is reddit. You really are that fucktarded.
[–]turtleeatingalderman[S] 5 ポイント6 ポイント7 ポイント 5 時間 前
Earnest speculation that is on its face ridiculous, which you then go on to defend. I can't imagine that you would suggest this possibility if not deluded, and too lazy to spend two minutes checking to see whether there has been an increase in starvation in Spain recently.

Like I said, you're a fucktard.
which you then go on to defend.
Uh, no. I went on to attack his assumptions, not to defend my hyperbole. Sometimes I'm embarrassed that I'm from the same planet as you failfucks.
Circlejerk away, shitbag.

Which you do just as moronically. Lending any sort of plausibility to your initial claim, which you later passed off as a hyperbole, would require the assumption that a mass starvation event in Spain (a) is possible without the rest of Europe being in a similar condition, which (b) somehow isn't widely reported enough to be known to virtually everyone with constant access to news media. You were attacking, instead, very sound assumptions

I can't help but laugh at this whole thing. If I didn't know any better I'd say he was trolling to frustrate people, but he moderates /r/collapse, which explains the lack of critical thinking skills.

That needs to exist.
Edit - Nevermind, someone's already had this idea.

Since when is being pessimistic equal to hyperbole? A pessimistic theory usually still implies plausibility. It was not at all apparent you believed your theory was implausible.

Since when is being pessimistic equal to hyperbole?
Being pessimistic isn't hyperbole.
Saying "the pessimist in me" or "the pessimist in my brain" is hyperbole and not pessimism. Fuck you mouth-breathing imbeciles and you're 3rd grade reading levels. I'm done. Bye.
Even a third grader would understand that a pessimistic position is not a hyperbolic one. There's nobody to blame for the confusion except yourself for using a definition of "pessimist" that is non-standard and known only to yourself.

A third grader would possibly miss the phrase "the pessimist in my brain" or fail to understand it. Well, not me when I was in third grade, because I'm not a fucktard.
Do you think I literally meant that I had a pessimist stored in my hollowed out skull who was asking me questions? If you can make the leap that such a phrase isn't literal, why didn't you bother to try to parse it? Don't you read that and instantly associate it with the use of similar phrases where the hyperbole is understood?
How the fuck do you make it through day-to-day life without just dying from absurd accidents like mistakenly stabbing yourself in the face with scissors?
What the fuck is wrong with you people?
At first, I thought that it might not be that you were all incredibly stupid... it was r/economics after all, and they'll rabidly attack anything that even hints that anything might be less than perfect with either the world economy or the state of the "science" itself. But it's pretty obvious that's not the case... you quite simply cannot understand English at anything beyond a gradeschool level.
And you think you're all smart for being this fucking stupid. It's amazing. Was I really born on this planet? It's scary sometimes... I know that reddit is the cream of the crop, because the people not here are not here because they're incapable of operating a computer or uninterested in doing that "reading stuff".
that is non-standard
Non-standard for the semi-literate.

I thought you were done with this thread? Do realize that your bizarre definition of "pessimist" has now made you the laughingstock of now three subreddits. But seeing as your grasp of the English is so poor, let me spell it out for you: 1) your whole diatribe about interpreting the phrase "pessimist in my brain" literally is peculiar since nobody has suggested it be interpreted literally; 2) "pessimist in my brain" is interpreted to mean you believe a pessimistic theory is plausible, and there is zero indication that it is a hyperbolic thought. I would suggest you google the phrase "pessimist in my brain" or something similar like "the pessimist side of me" to understand how such phrases are typically used. It would certainly save you a lot of heartache next time you are deign to use it.

Eh, I'm not all that learnèd when it comes to economics, so I don't know how long I'd be able to keep it up. I had a few friends who were really into economics, but they're all dead now (because they were Spanish).

The assumptions that Spain was not starving to death en masse? I mean, okay, the EU might not be the universe's most competent organization, but do you not think it might at least have commented on this vast imaginary human tragedy?

Oh, this is so phenomenally silly. More earnest speculation on surrealist nonsense, reddit, please.
