Ahh yes, because you shouldn't have to do anything to get free information right?

That's why they call it -free- information...

Oh so companies should just pay to house the information and give it away at their own expense? Sounds to me like you don't know anything about business.

They can do it in a way that doesn't make the customer not want to use their service. You don't have to know anything about business to know this is annoying.

I'm only explaining why it's done, I could care less what people think/say. Sure people can bitch, but until they put their money where their mouth is, that's what they deserve and this is what they will get.

Pissing off would-be customers is definitely a great way to run a business.

As a business owner, I only serve people who give me money, not give things away to the poor. If you want to run your business into the ground by giving things away, good luck in life, you'll need it.

Serious questions because I'm genuinely curious. How many people actually sign up when prompted like in OP's image? Do these people use their accounts enough to justify their creation? How much revenue is made off of making a user create a free account (I don't see how money is made here, mind explaining)?
[–]TheAngryDesignerYour Wrong, I'm Right, Deal With It. -6 ポイント-5 ポイント-4 ポイント 2 時間 前
Great question! In some cases I've seen signup's increase on a site up to 800% almost over night because of model boxes like in OP's images, but it is guaranteed to increase user bases on any site that they are used.
Businesses most likely will not profit directly from a user inputting their information, but what the company does with that information is where the huge amounts of cash come in. You can sell the information to 3rd parties and get (depending on how much information comes with each user) no less than $0.15 per user, I've seen information sold for as much as $3 per user.
Another way to make money from this is through email blasts advertising for other companies, products you sell or whatever you want.
To be on the internet and serve the community as a whole is very expensive and someone has to pay for it, nobody is going to put a website online and not want to profit from it, especially if there are hundreds of thousands of views on a site.

It actually costs fuck all to be on the internet. The most expensive part is your connection bill itself, which if it's an actual business. They would have to pay that money regardless so their employees can use said internet to work.
[–]TheAngryDesignerYour Wrong, I'm Right, Deal With It. -10 ポイント-9 ポイント-8 ポイント 2 時間 前
Hey kid, if you wanted every website to be hosted and served to you by your ISP you would be paying then a few hundred dollars a month for your connection, not $50 like you are. You should really think before you speak/type.
[–]a_demon_ninjaSweet, we have flairs now. 0 ポイント1 ポイント2 ポイント 1 時間 前
If you want 50-500 hosts to be connected and using the internet, you need to pay a few hundred a month too. Like I said, an actual business needs to pay that much anyways. I have a server, it costs me fuck all to run 24/7. A domain name would cost anywhere from 10-50/yr depending on who I chose my DNS provider to be. The only thing that would cost me more would be my connection. If I sprang for a T1 connection it would cost me $150-$200/mth, but if I was running a business that's still fuck all.
[–]TheAngryDesignerYour Wrong, I'm Right, Deal With It. -3 ポイント-2 ポイント-1 ポイント 1 時間 前
Hmmmmm, you obviously don't know the running costs of anything. Domain name's should never be more than $15/yr from any registrar (not dns provider). A T1 line is usually over $1k/month, which isn't enough to run a popular website on. You shouldn't open your own business, you're only going to hurt yourself and the one's who surround you.
You just proved how little you know with your own comment. I've looked in to opening a gaming cafe (similar to an internet cafe, but also includes consoles). I know the approximate yearly cost to run a business that's sole shtick is internet. For anything baring one of the most popular sites (e.g. Google, Wikipedia, YouTube, etc etc) a T1 connection is fine. Also, I have no idea who the Hell you've gotten your pricing from but the most expensive quote I received was 350/mth for a T1 connection. It went up to around 600-800/mth for T2 and T3 went up to 1k-2k/mth which any business that needs bandwidth of that calibre is making more than enough to cover the cost.

It baffles me that people like you exist. Not related to this comment, but jesus i just spent 5 minutes going through your post history and goddamn man you are such a low life prick. The world would be so much better off if people like you just instantaneously died a painful death.
