General Volunteer Application for DashCon 2014
This is the application you need to fill out to work as a 'general volunteer' at DashCon 2015. General volunteers can and will be asked to do a variety of jobs, some of which are listed below as check boxes. This list should not be considered complete and is subject to change at any time. New tasks may be added without prior notice, even during the actual event.
As a volunteer, you will be expected to think on your feet and adapt quickly to new situations as they arise. You will be expected to attend all required training sessions, held mostly in Skype, along with one in-person training session held just prior to the actual start of the convention. You will be expected to be punctual and work the hours you are assigned, not to exceed the maximum number of hours you list below, as instructed. You will also be expected to act in such a way that you do not upset our other guests or tarnish the convention name. You will be expected to respect the authority of DashCon staff and follow orders, so long as you do not feel those orders endanger the mental, physical, or emotional well-being of you or those around you. And you will be expected to follow our Convention Rules and Policies at all times.
Failure to meet these requirements may result in the revocation of your volunteer status, cancellation of future volunteer hours (including the perks that accompany them), as well as the possible revocation of your badge and/or you being physically removed from the convention for the remainder of the event. Such incidents will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and you will be expected to submit to the decisions made by DashCon staff. The decisions of the DashCon staff are final.
Volunteers MUST wear their volunteer shirt at all times while on the clock. The shirt must remain AT LEAST 85% visible at all times. And your face CANNOT be obscured in any way while on the clock (this includes but is not limited to: prosthetic costume pieces, masks, heavy make up). You are allowed to cosplay (so long as your costume doesn't inhibit movement or keep you from performing your tasks), but your volunteer shirt MUST be worn over your costume and remain visible. We encourage you to save cosplay for the hours you are not on the clock.
Volunteer perks go as follows:
1-11 hours: receive our undying gratitude
12-19 hours: receive a refund of your badge cost
20+ hours: receive a refund of your badge cost and your hotel room* will be comped for Fri & Sat nights
*This applies only to those who choose to stay in the hotel attached to our convention space.
Perks will be dispensed once your hours have been worked and can be verified by official DashCon staff. We will do everything in our power to see to it that all of your time is counted; however, you will be responsible for notifying someone if you feel your shift has gone unverified.
You may be asked to submit additional information or submit to an interview via phone or Skype prior your to approval as a volunteer. We reserve the right to deny volunteer status for any reason, and that decision will be final. If you have any questions, you may contact us here.
