i know ur just throwin #bantz, the fact that people bring my music up constantly without me doing anything kinda invalidates your joke

not tryna be a dick, but literally every time the anti-snug train starts, someone new finds out I make music and PM's me about it. between yall, HHCJ, etc. I never have to plug my shit at all. that's kind of what makes you a struggle rapper; you gotta bring up the fact you rap and pass your shit out to people who don't want it 24/7. you just kinda proved the opposite so ty

Actually I was pagin you bc I know you've got a bunch of interesting and valid opinions as a dude trying to break the industry in a way that differentiates you from ten aforementioned struggle rappers.

But the other way works as well. Your shits cool in my books

oh, my b lol

usually when people page me about this stuff its the salt train. ive just gotten so accustomed to it. i stopped postin my music here cause dudes got so mad. like i still routinely get random PM's and shit from kids who tell me my record deal isnt real and stuff like that. its wild. i dont get it.

people love to hate. they love to salt up when it comes to people they can talk to, that they reckon they can level with.

after reading that as a dude who wants to do this as well I think we can both agree that the article's making a bunch of really valid points. being a rapper is like being a comedian. if you want to do it right, you really have to take it seriously and have a respect for the craft that goes above "making it". You have to have philosophies about how you go about doing it.

people who make it are A) super lucky and B) they take what they do very seriously. Jon Connor and Kendrick Lamar are both seriously talented, both are signed to Interscope, but one's probably never going to bust through and the other sold Platinum.

What differentiates the two? That's what I want to get to the bottom of.

The difference to me is Kenrick Lamar is a much, much better rapper?

[–]screaming_nugget 7 ポイント8 ポイント

I think Kendrick is just better at actually crafting songs. Original songs with catchy melodies and variety. Jon Connor is good at getting on a beat (often one that another rapper already used) and just fucking ripping it up, but that doesn't translate quite as well to mainstream success if that's all you can do.

[–]Linisopolis 0

That's not all he can do tho. He put out an album last year with all original beats.

[–]Linisopolis -2

Skill wise Connor is a much better rapper than Kendrick, however Kendrick is a waaaaay better storyteller than Connor (Connor is a good storyteller too, but dude hasn't made anything as good as Keisha's Song or Sherane) so it's a toss up.

I really don't see how Jon Connor is better "skill-wise" in any way. BUT. It's all subjective my dude so I can't act like Kendrick is "better", I just personally like him a lot more, in every way.

[–]Linisopolis -2

By skill wise i mean technical ability like speed, and breathe control, ect. For example Kendrick cant spit something like this

Are we really gonna go there?

[–]big_sexy_in_glasses [score hidden]

You didn't just say Connor has better technical ability than Kendrick...right?

[–]Linisopolis [score hidden]

Yeah i clearly stated it. Is english not your first language?

[–]big_sexy_in_glasses [score hidden]

Well clearly it's not yours because I was very obviously showing my disbelief in such a ludicrous statement on your part.

jon connor and k-dot are 2 completely different artists. just because you got talent and you're on a major dont guarantee everything. it's a little more than that. its your brand, your name, style, aesthetic, timing, cosigns, its a lot. its just a lightning strike kind of thing

one's probably never going to bust through

That's what we used to say about Kendrick.

[–]Swiftt 3

you swerved that well hahahaha

you thought he was supposed to think that? damn

when he said the 'paging' i acc did think that haha. like he was summoning him to give his opinion

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh, man, he went off on you.

[–]shmishshmorshin [score hidden]

I really can't tell if people are taking shots or just friendly shit talking like with some of the mods. Not really sure about you not having to plug your shit because people are making fun of you though.

[–]YungSnuggie [score hidden]

a little bit of both

and im at the point now where i dont have to "plug my shit". at this point im just here for the fun. i could get IP banned from here and i really wouldnt cry about it. i've gotten just about all i can outta this subreddit music wise, so at this point im like fuck it

...you plug your shit every time you drop a new song tho

which is what, once every 2 months? and if I don't post it, usually someone else does within an hour or so. thats really not struggle status. struggle status is when that's literally the only thing you post, or the only thing you talk about. trust me, I used to mod here, I know what the struggle looks like. also, the struggle would imply that nobody fucks with your music. every time I post shit here, its at the top of the sub. that aint really the struggle. I know I'm still "irrelevant" or whatever, but this ain't an overnight game. I'm more than satisfied with the progress I've made.

and beyond that, I really make a concerted effort to not talk about my music. because every time I do, people get irrationally spiteful. i can just exist in a thread and it'll make people mad

I never said you were a "struggle rapper" I don't even really know what the fuck that means but nah man I won't lump you into whatever stereotype that is. I just think you do plug your shit, cause I see it about once a month or two like you said, I aint really knocking it just think you made a false claim. However, I will take issue with "every time I post here, its at the top of the sub". If you were just Mr. 3, the rapper and not Yung Snuggie, the HHH reddit celebrity than there is absolutely no way this would be the case, I hate to break it to you my dude. No doubt they'd get the upvotes, front page type of stuff but Mr. 3 the rapper would never get like 400 karma for original tracks. Mr. 3, easily the most well-known user on this sub certainly will. You're literally the only original rapper on HH to get anything close to those types of upvotes, and for you to say it's strictly only because of the music and not your notoriety is laughable.

If you were just Mr. 3, the rapper and not Yung Snuggie, the HHH reddit celebrity than there is absolutely no way this would be the case

Tyler the Creator was on Larry King the other day. Larry King asked him a question of what made him famous. Tyler said that his music didn't make him famous, his personality did. That's what garnered him that initial attention. And that's what I understood from the get go. You gotta bring more to the table than just your music. Making good music ain't that hard. But to be a rapper takes more than just good music. You have to be an interesting person. And that's what I've been able to cultivate. An interesting personality to such a point that people will fuck with anything I create. That's the secret, and its not even a secret. You gotta bring more to the table than just bars if you wanna stand out, and that's what I did. I don't separate the two. Someone might fuck with me because of my funny posts, then find out I make music, and they'll be 10x more likely to fuck with my music. You gotta be an all around entertainer in 2014, just bars won't cut it. My posting all over reddit/social media ain't an accident.

I see guys on HHH all the time who I think got legitimate bars/who are better than me by miles, but they don't get the same kind of attention because they don't demand it. It's so much talent out here, so many hype ass dudes out here, that you have to demand to be heard. And warrant that attention once you get it. How you think guys like Lil B and Riff Raff got on? They aren't technical wordsmiths by any means of the imagination, but they demanded attention. You can still do it the old fashioned way, but its so hard and its such a luck of the draw because you're leaving your success in the hands of others. I don't like that model.

For me the music is 90% of why I like an artist, no doubt about it. Isaiah Rashad isn't super active on social media AFAIK and he seems a bit uncomfortable in interviews, but he's one of the fastest rising rappers right now just because he makes great music.

If you want to be the next Lil B or Riff Raff then sure, you need to be very active on social media, but if you want to be the next great rapper then I don't think your persona should be your main focus.

Ugh. You're contradicting yourself now! I won't get into it man, not in the mood to argue with strangers but good luck with the music, I certainly am a listener which is your point, jus think my point isn't quite getting through but who the fuck cares anyway.

I don't think its a contradiction at all. What I do on the internet, its a persona. The same persona that comes through musically. If you met me irl and I wasnt puttin on, I'd probably bore you to tears. I can't separate my reddit fame from my musical success because they're one in the same. I didn't start posting my music here till I got my lick making that "whats it like to be white" post on /r/askreddit that got crossposted to 18 different subreddits. I know how to write. It's a legit talent. And I use it to tie in with everything else I do. It's all a full package.

And you right I dont wanna argue and I appreciate the love, I just get passionate when I talk about my music cause I done poured everything I got into this venture so when its brought up, I go in. I dont' feel bad about that. Any lesser level of dedication and you wont make it.

link to that askreddit thread?

it was on my old homeboy account that i deleted; the post probably still exists somewhere

someone copy pasted it on their tumblr

y do people hate u?

tis a story I want to hear [serious]

[–]SCREAMING_DUMB_SHIT 13 ポイント14 ポイント

At the risk of sounding like a dick, but he's not hated by almost everybody imo, he just victimizes himself. This sub, including others like r/nba, all love him and almost all his comments get hella upvotes but I still see him talking about how hated he is a lot.

Its because if you mention that you don't enjoy his music he throws long butthurt rants at you.
