I envy you. There's absolutely no racism in the UK.

Lucky you.

Sadly that's not true... still plenty of racial discrimination there too. But I do consider myself lucky to be able to live there, it is a beautiful country.

Edit: I didn't bother watching those links, but knew you were most definitely being sarcastic. Anyway, not that I have to explain myself to you, but I am happier in the U.K. for the main reason of having more space and less pollution (for health reasons), like I said in my previous comment, racism is everywhere, it's all down to how you deal with it.

some locals just get butthurt when you bring up racism. an incident with a doorman like this would NOT happen in the UK.

Like other posters, I just found it amusing that racism was even cited as a reason for moving to UK...

I grew up in London, and racist confrontations there don't often result in both parties being able to walk away.

Doormen aren't as prevalent in the UK. As for the story of a low-paid HK doorman actually getting off his ass to demonstrate his personal racist beliefs against a (most likely) larger individual? Bullshit. Most wouldn't even get up to physically open the door for you, yet alone risk confrontation.

technically they're security guards, and i have seen them attempt to prevent people from entering buildings.

although the UK is less safe than hk in general, only the most piggishly oblivious idiot would claim that that HK is a less racist society.

if you haven't had experience with racism in hk or in general, you should just shut up. i'm sure you'll have a litany of replies, which i won't bother reading or replying to, but defending or apologizing for racism is as bad as perpetrating it yourself.

and until it changes, HK deserves its reputation for being more considerably more backward than places like the UK, US and Canada when it comes to racism. any semi literate person can understand this.

Lol...I think you're sense of the written word has failed you...Butthurt much?

I haven't argued HK is not racist. You will find my postings already state otherwise. HK is extremely racist. everyone is a target. We're worse - we're nationalistic, sexist, racist, ageist - you name it! To be a true HKer merely means you grow a thick skin to such nonesense.

Note a security guard doing their job - does not make them racist...

sigh...another semi educated little emperor brat who wasn't disciplined by his parents.

is it his job to tell the black guy to take the stairs? he should only ask him to wait for the resident to come down and confirm, or register his ID or whatever. so unless you're accusing OP of making up the entire story...

i don't see how it's his job to tell him to take the stairs when others can use the lift.

i'm not exactly politically correct, i don't mind being called racial slurs and jokes about curry as much as i mind actual discrimination- back in high school i lived in an apartment complex where residents used personalized octopus cards to enter both their building and the main entrance. i remember that i was asked to produce my card (instead of just beeping it) multiple times, sometimes even by the same staff members who had asked before, at the main entrance, while Chinese and white residents weren't. this was after i had lived there for a while, so it wasn't just a question of me being new or new staff.

that's something i'm not going to grow a thick skin for, and something you'll never be told to grow a thick skin for because it doesn't happen to you.

you probably wouldn't even acknowledge it as racism, since you'd claim they're just doing their job. but of course their job doesn't involve asking Chinese or white people to take their card out of their wallet and show it to them (essentially accusing them of having stolen a resident's card)

You are still replying? You are too easy.

You have no real evidence that a racist event has occurred or what actually happened so it doesn't warrant pitchforks in HK. Recognize that the OP's story is not YOUR story.

It is somewhat amusing though that the mere inconvenience of entering into your building as a child has scarred you in such a negative way. First World Problems et al...but even your story does not suggest racism. The doormen will let people pass - who they know and recognize. I hate to break it to you and the "white-british-guy", but your importance and impact on other people may not be as significant as you imagine it to be...

lol fuck off you racist piece of shit. people talk about their experiences of racism and are polite enough not to share the worse ones like being spat on for no reason, and you walk in all pompous and uppity and demand "evidence"?

no fuck you. you're easy. say that to someone's face (or repeat the racist joke you made) and you'll easily get your fucking nose broken, asshole. sit behind your keyboard like a little bitch, it's obviously all you have going for you, like the people on stormfront.

go ahead and say this was a lie too: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2010/mar/31/hospital-pays-compensation-racism-death

You're right, I didn't realize this was a group-hug therapy session for victims of supposed racism. We can get through this together though. Just add oil. I also do anger management...

You seem to keep overlooking my comments where I have continually stated HK is racist, but here's the rub - I just don't believe you or the OP really know what racism actually is. The OP - a white guy, who proudly refers to himself as a gweilo as though it was a badge of honor is clearly no expert and you with your "experiences" which amount to nothing more than petty name-calling, and id-checks from people doing their jobs.

You be-little the real battle of racism in this country - and it is bad. But please...stop treating every single misfortune and misunderstanding as a racist event just because of the color of YOUR skin.
