I usually hate people for drawing a parallel, but can you imagine a similar restaurant themed with skimpily dressed men instead of women and the 14 year old being a girl? The waiter would be a registered sex offender.

I would call it Dongs.

[–]Sdsimkins 447

Buffalo Wild Wangs

[–]Itz_The_Bees_Knees 105 ポイント106 ポイント

Or as the hip kids call it, "B-Dongs".

I could definitely go for some B-dongs right about now

Dicks. (it's already a restaurant, but they are actually Dicks to you)

I went to Dicks with my friend for his birthday and holy shit that place is funny. Our waitor got a leafblower with toilet paper blew it all over our food and stuff. Then he farted on some girls behind us, he told some customers ( a family who looked like they just came from church ) to fuck off when they said they didn't like the restaurant. He also took my friends beanie and threw it under the stairs. I would absolutely go back.

It's a wonderful place. Our waiter kept cracking viagra jokes towards my friend's old father. He also told some girl at our table that sex with her is like throwing a hot dog down a hallway.

I worked at dicks back in '99, the original west end spot. Had a Manager named Bobby. I was working mid-shift and a girl came in to interview for a server job. I was withing earshot when i heard bobby ask, "why did you leave TGI Fridays?" "Actually i had to leave after an incident of sexual harassment. I had to file a lawsuit." she answered "Well you're in the wrong business bitch." he quipped. he stood up, and walked off whistling. God i miss that job

Something I've always wondered is when you are interviewing, are you supposed to be nice or mean?

Comically mean, I would suggest.

"What's your greatest strength?"

"Pointing out that your shirt looks like a chimp washed it in a sewer."

You're probably not lying... We took my dad there for his birthday one year and he's an old school Mexican Mafia type and we didn't tell him that the place was full of assholes. Should've recorded that shit. My dad was so fucking pissed!

Interesting. I have a feeling that a restaurant fitting this description would be filled with gay men and the occasional bachelorette party. I suspect that it would be a totally different atmosphere. I'm not sure how many people would bring their daughters in for dinner.

But I'm wrong a lot, so there's that.

oh my god. it's like all of my thoughts are written there, more in order...thanks! i'll show that to a person who needs to see it. from the second i heard on hooters i thought there has to be a counter for it.... now i know i'm not the only one thinking so. what about the name "six-packers"? and another problem is- a place like that could easily become a place that only gay guys would come and that tag, would effect straight people from going there, thinking its meant for gays

And then you can text them and tell them to check their privilege!

Think about it. If there were money in this idea, it would already exist. Men and women are not so similar.

Personally I'd like it if this was true and women could be this cool about sexuality. I wouldn't mind it one bit.

I'm a straight guy, and I don't think I'd have any problem visiting this establishment. Sounds hilarious!

It's kind of sad, because from a young age boys are constantly given positive feedback for being sexual towards women whereas young girls are being shamed. If they weren't, they'd feel less sexual shame which leads to better sex for everyone

My friend who works at Hooters mentioned this to me. She said the employees talk about that.

    [–]Metalbound 8

While I usually agree with these kinds of things. If the restaurant only hired guys with six packs and they had to be shirtless. I highly doubt any 14 year old girl would be mad if the waiter did the same thing as the Hooters waitress.

As long as he isn't pulling his dick out and everyone knows what the restaurant is about (like Hooters) I think it would be fine.

Like the guys that stand outside of Abercrombie.

my thought on this has always been that if it's a viable business model somebody somewhere would have already opened a restaurant like this. Since it doesn't exist that means that the interest in such an establishment is too low to succeed.

If you go by this strategy nothing would ever have been created. "Hm, if people wanted the wheel someone surely would have come up with it already. Since nobody has it seems like I should not pursue the idea."

It's not an entirely implausible line of reasoning. Lots of things don't exist because they could never exist. OTOH, people can and do come up with new ideas every day, some of which are ultimately successful.

And don't you understand the point you just made? You can sexualize the female body and sell it to anyone of any age and make millions.

Not sure why Reddit thinks that males and females are exactly the same and need to always be treated the same under every circumstance. It is neither ironic nor unfair, it is just our society's recognition of the different breeding strategies of the two genders.

If Homo Sapiens were more like bonobos, then perhaps we might have restaurants with skimpily clad males, but we are more like chimps, and our society reflects that, just like pretty much every other society since the beginning of humanity. No sense trying to work against human nature; best to work with it.

It is neither ironic nor unfair, it is just our society's recognition of the different breeding strategies of the two genders.

Or maybe young men and women learn their respective 'breeding strategies' and mirror the cultural norms they are brought up with. So young men are taught it is natural to oogle and cat call and young women are taught that people prefer an accommodating woman who doesn't object too loudly. We are left with men who feel pressure be some insane hyper-masculine monster and passive women with a tendency to tie their self worth to their appearance.

Just because western society favors the predatory male does not mean it is 'natural.'

More likely it's a bit of both - our "nature" becomes reinforced and amplified by our culture. I don't know why people are always so binary on this issue.

Just because western society favors the predatory male does not mean it is 'natural.'

"Western" society favors predatory men? What, so women in the east are taught to be assertive and stand up for themselves?

If anything, women in the west are more equal than anywhere else on earth today, and apart from a few outlier societies and hypotheticals, they are more equal than they have ever been.

Biology was here before culture and culture is just an extension of it, it wasn't born out of thin air. I don't feel any pressure to be masculine. I only feel pressure to not be from people like you.

Or maybe young men and women learn their respective 'breeding strategies' and mirror the cultural norms they are brought up with.

Nope. Evolutionary biology, bitches. It's hard coded in our genes. Society can exert a powerful influence no doubt, but most societies fall in line with what our almighty immortal genes tell us to do.

It's no accident that when you go into a grocery store, most of the magazines on display have attractive young women of breeding age on their covers. Or that when you go to a conservative society, the young women are covered up and carefully chaperoned. In our environment of ancestral origin a tribe could loose 90% of its men, and still be able to recover. If that tribe lost 90% of its women, it was doomed, unless the women could be replaced. That's why we value our young women much more. It's just nature. There are also evolutionary reasons why men are in general more aggressive in their pursuit of mating opportunities, while the most common female strategy is to be more picky.

Young women are valued more? Then why are females more commonly the victims of infanticide than males?

That's a good question, and I don't have an answer. There could be some evolutionary reason why a young mother might find it to her reproductive advantage to have a son rather than a daughter. That does not change the fact that the daughter will grow into a woman who will certainly have plenty of mating opportunities, while the son's chances are much more iffy.

    [–]Ozwaldo -2

Or maybe hormones shape the general makeup of our societal norms, and we're just doing what comes naturally to us. Just because you don't like your position in society doesn't mean it's not 'natural', or that we have to change it.

My favorite take on the double standard was a story once where a woman was being charged with statutory rape for fucking a 15 year old she thought was 17. She was on CNN trying to defend herself and say how she was convinced he was 17 cuz he was so charming. Then Patrice O'Neal walking about it goes "they would never let a statutory rape guy be on TV explaining himself like 'she had biiig round titties, and she had hair under her arms. I asked her, why aren't you getting your period? I couldn't believe it'"

    [–]But_first_coffee -2 ポイント-1 ポイント

Let's continue this parallel: can you imagine a 240 Lbs bearded chick with arms the size of logs, sporting a chest full of hair, doing 'hard physical labour'?

You can, but it's not a pretty sight. It works both ways.

    People like you are annoying.

    Apples and oranges.

Look, boys are different than girls. We don't care when or where it happens, we love titties on us. Women don't feel the same about dicks. You gotta really warm a lady up before she's even remotely interested in the dong. Even now as a married man this remains true. My wife is naked after working out and about to get in the shower, those tits look amazing and I want to do it. Reading a book in her pj's an no bra, fantastic lets do it. If she walked around the house naked all day I'd be in heaven. Now if I walk up to her and present a marvelous primed boner she's not impressed. I'm probably more excited than she is.
