It shows nothing about "big pharma" paying for it. In fact, you may want to look on page 13 at the financial disclosure and funding section - NO big pharma sponsors...

Maybe you should do your research before positing stuff like this, your credibility has taken a huge hit.

Some will mistrust government funded studies just as much as pharma funded, but let's dig deeper...

Google HHSA290200710062I leads to http://government-contracts.findthebest.com/l/2328434/Rand-Corporation-Agency-for-Health-Care-Policy-and-Research-HHSA290200710062I which says:

The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research awarded this $8,103,709 contract to Rand Corporation for Health Services - Applied Research/Exploratory Development and Management Support Services.

Google Rand Corporation leads us to http://www.rand.org/ which is a non-profit researcher. On another page on their site (http://www.rand.org/giving/policy_circle/members.html) they list big donors.

On that page we have in the million plus dollar club (which has exactly 3 names, one of which is "Anonymous"):

Donald Rice, current President and CEO of Agensys, a pharmaceutical company, former President and CEO of UroGenesys who doesn't seem to exist any more but if you Google them you'll find they were a pharma, a former member of the BoD of Amgen, yet another pharma (on whose board he sat when this study was funded)

Follow the money?

He's right. It's a government funded study, not a pharma funded study. Our tax dollars paid for the study.

The strangeness is in the donors to the non-profit that did the study, specifically one of 3 names (one of which is "anonymous") in the massive donors section. If he was in the $10-99k section, I wouldn't think twice about it. But he's in the million plus section so I do.

That doesn't necessarily mean something untoward happened, but it is an interesting financial link.
