No, don't relax. This is really stupid in every possible way. Gun safety begins with: Assume the weapon is real and can kill. PERIOD. There is absolutely no situation in-which this type of thing is acceptable.

That has nothing to do with this. That was a single anomalous event. Military/police training and theatre have always used blanks, props, and other fake weapons.

I never said they don't use them, just that they educate you about correct weapon safety, which includes not injuring yourself or others with blank ammunition.

In training, using blanks, you still don't point that weapon at people. Especially since they're generally your workmates who you usually don't wish to kill/maim.

And you should never point a weapon (loaded or unloaded) at someone you don't wish to actually kill. They teach you that in the army, at least, and I have to assume the same can be said for other armed forces and police.

Allowing a kid to play with a gun like this creates a behaviour of poor judgement. If you assume a gun is always real and loaded you put yourself, your kids, your family, your friends, society et al at less risk by being shot from a stupid mistake done in play or jest.

I don't give a shit if this kid knew it was a fake. The fact is: 1. next time she may ASSUME that and it's not, 2. a prop gun still can kill, 3. it's a fucking bad habit to get into.

You should go buy a prop gun and a real gun and leave them lying about your house. And then just wait for the fun and hilarity to begin. It'll be fun to see the feed on r/wtf.

If this is a film, then I can tell just how low budget it is that an actor has a prop firearm flying around loose instead of a firearms master keeping a tight reign on it.he way it's supposed to be the weapons master gives the prop to the actor right before they roll, and collects them when the shot is done.

Most firearms masters would flip the fuck out if people were playing around like that on set, especially a kid. Bad practice, bad image.

If you are seriously calling people pussies because someone let a child hold a gun to her own head then you're the kind of idiot that give responsible gun owners like me and my family a bad name. If a kid thinks a fun is fake and treats it as a toy they will begin to think all guns are toys. Like the kids that shoot themselves or others because they think the gun isn't loaded and they were just playing or they thought it was a toy. Even if it is a movie prop the blanks in the still have the power to kill at close range. Just ask Bruce Lee's child, o wait he's dead from a prop gun.
