Oh man. My friend lives next to this crazy cat lady. She has like 90 cats outside.

One time a kitten fell out from under her husband's truck after he got to work. Thankfully it was okay and he found it a home with one of his co-workers that day. They told the crazy lady, thinking it was awesome they found it a home. Her response? She was PISSED. That was HER cat. Why did they think they had the right to give it away?

One cat started staying on my friend's porch and they eventually started letting it go inside. Well, they got her spayed since they were feeding her and she was kinda their cat now. Crazy lady got PISSED. It's against god to do that to animals!

I hate crazy cat lady. Sad thing is no one gives a damn. Animal Control is well aware of the situation.

We have cats who hang out outside. About 5 or 6. We called North Shore Animal League and they had crazy requirements to take them in. ASPCA didn't want them. Not sure what you're supposed to do.

Might sit your boyfriend down and tell him that his cat's health and well-being is more important than his own ego and manly posturing since those things seem to be the biggest reason guys don't want their male pets neutered. There are a lot of health risks you can avoid by spaying and neutering your pets. It's reckless and inconsiderate to the animals not to. Unless you're planning on breeding there is absolutely no reason to keep them intact.

Good on you for putting the pressure on, and my apologies for making assumptions on the attitude of your boyfriend where this is concerned, but if that is the case then he needs to just grow up and do what's right for his cat and not worry about how less of a bro he feels for doing it. If it's not the case then you should probably still impress the importance to the cat's health. If he cares for it then he'll do what's right for it in the end.

That attitude, assuming once again that this is one of the forces in play here, just irks me to no end. It's usually the big tough guys with their dogs, but people from all walks of life do it with all sorts of animals. It's like they think it makes them less of a man by allowing it to happen, like it's some part of the bro code or something.

And like I said, sure it helps keep the population down (especially important with cats) and it's convenient in terms of not having to go through living with an animal that's all worked up over the local lady cat going into heat, but it avoids a lot of unnecessary health risks as well. A lot of people never even consider that. And if he really wants his cat "intact" he can get him some Neuticles.

Anyway, like I said, good on you for pushing him to do it. I would be careful carting the cat off and doing it without his permission, though. Might end up getting yourself in trouble.

And some people consider it cruel not to and I am one of them. I personally think considering it cruel to get a pet fixed is very short-sighted, though I see the reasoning for it. I didn't say it had to do with ego and posturing for all people, but there are tons of guys who will say it with pride, that they aren't getting their pets fixed because it would make them less a man. These are the same people who probably wouldn't own a female dog for the same reason.
