I have been searching for a non-racist, decent tattoo artist within a 10 hour drive for 3. Goddamn. Hours.
Basically everyone has a fucking “Indian woman in a headdress” tattoo example or “Asian deity or something with an Ohm symbol and a yin yang,” and I’m going to go full…
What’s racist about those tattoos? You know nothing about the people who got them, their religion, their ethnicity, nothing. And secondly, the artist just gives the people what they want. It’s their source of income. He’s not going to interview every customer beforehand to make sure their intentions are pure. His career is to do the tattoos people want and do them well. You want to fucking call someone a racist for that then just make your toothbrush in to a damn tattoo needle and do it yourself, because you’re not going to find someone to meet your unrealistic and privileged moral standards.
Are you serious right now? For real?
It’s racist because these are white people getting tattoos of some ambiguously brown “native girl” with a fucking wolf on her head and a headdress. Or a tattoo of Ganesha. Or an extremely sexualized geisha. Or some random Chinese characters that they likely don’t even know the meaning of.
These are white people. That is not their culture. That is not an appropriate thing to have on your arm or leg or ass or back. Especially since I know for a fact that the depiction of headdresses and some of the ways I’ve seen various Asian deities drawn is highly offensive and culturally inaccurate.
If someone wanted a fucking business owner to kick out all POC or they wouldn’t pay them, would you defend their actions? If someone wanted a tattoo artist to put a goddamn swastika on their ass, would you defend it? Is it okay for someone to tattoo KKK regalia, knowing that’s what it is, on someone because they ask?
No, because it’s called integrity. These people are getting more than enough clients to turn down the racist requests. Some of the galleries I saw were for people who have won multiple awards and had hundreds of large, intricate pieces in their portfolios. They are not starving artists, and expunging them of all responsibility is ludicrous and incredibly inappropriate.
These people are taking a culture that I can’t even claim because my ancestry has been so utterly fucking destroyed and hidden that I dont even know which nation I’m from and permanently etching it on some white woman’s ribcage, and you’re gonna call me fucking privileged? Fuck that noise. Get out.
YES. THANK YOU.
I saw pictures. Of these people. They were whiter than snow. Their features were white. There were dozens of them. And...
"It’s racist because these are white people getting tattoos" Um. I’m sorry. Were you there when all of those people got...
But. That. Isn’t. The. Artists. Fault. He is simply doing his/her job and giving the people what they want. You can be...
WORD. Thank you.
