First thing I’m doing on my birthday! Pleeeeease come join me!!! It’s going to be an awesome experience, and benefit kids just like my Cutterbear! The funding for Autism research, therapy, and treatment is literally non-existant and impossible for many families to afford. These amazing kids depend solely on private donations for the programs they need to reach their full potential! Please come hike and yoga with me on my birthday for #autismspeaks !!!! #hiddendragon #yoga #oklahomacity #autism #lifeonthespectrum #asd #blessingscomeinallshapes @reereeleigh @carolove247 @cupcake_petersen @lili_hooklife @stephermadness @missmurq @karmannbug1 @rachelstylist @tishaandjason @shejitsu @estrellaevans31 @alyssaball1133

Actually, if you look at Autism Speaks’ financial records, they have enormous finding reserves. They just don’t spend their money of serving autistic people.
The Odd Way Home with Chris Marquette & Rumer Willis. Directed by Rajeev Nirmalakhandan at KiMo Theatre JUNE 7, 2014 8:00 PM.
The oddest couple takes an unforgettable journey through the American Southwest, finding happiness in the unlikeliest of places and seeing in each other what no one else has seen before. Maya is a product of childhood abuse who escapes her shattered life in Los Angeles and meets Duncan, a hermit from a tiny town. He is socially awkward and a slave to pattern and routine, but a master of map-making and directions. Their journey teaches Maya to care for someone else and takes Duncan into a new world. Their road trip is filled with unexpected surprises and hard realities that redefine the notion of family.
This is a special screening to benefit the AFME Foundation, THE NEW MEXICO AUTISM SOCIETY AND THE VSA ARTS CENTER. Additional donations welcome before or after the movie in the KiMo Theatre lobby.
Another film suggestion. Anyone going to see it? Got any reviews or opinions?

Our lived experinces are not your urban exploration ghost story. People, human beings, actually lived in asylums. People are still institutionalized today. Those haunting, wailing screams of the past you hear about? Those were made by mentally ill and developmentally disabled people screaming about their abuse and torture in institutional settings.
It was real.
Our lives aren’t a fucking episode of Scooby Doo. If seeing this shit scares you so much, maybe society should put in the effort to not have fucked up asylums where disabled people are kept prisoner for the crime of being born disabled.
So many of the classic “horror story” ideas actually happened to real people, but they are so disconnected form it, it just seems like an idea. Straight jackets? People wear those. Wrist and ankle restraints? Yes. Sedative drugs? IT STILL HAPPENS TODAY. Chipped and rusted buildings? Yes, people were and are forced to LIVE in those.
For you, it’s a creepy one-off exploration experience that you get to walk away from. For some of us, and our bretheren, it’s real life.
Although the mystery of autism continues to puzzle the medical community, some doctors are finding a link between autism and Lyme disease, which is called “Lyme-Induced Autism”
Environmental toxins, prenatal stress, extreme male hormones, vaccines and now ticks.
So, so very close to being a halfway decent article until they mentioned Autism Speaks as a resource.

Entire Stadium Helps Struggling Performer With Autism Sing National Anthem
On Disability Awareness Day a few years ago, a young man with autism was given the chance to sing the National Anthem at Fenway Park in Boston. About halfway through the song, his nerves got the better of him and he started to trip up, resulting in a case of nervous giggles that he just couldn’t suppress.
That’s when the crowd decided to do something incredible to encourage him. Watch the moving…
