This survey is the first comprehensive research project to understand
individual perceptions and quantify experiences of abuse experienced by
individuals who identify themselves as members of the African, Jewish,
Middle Eastern, Chinese, Caribbean and Asian communities who are resident
in the UK and Northern Ireland.
In using the term ‘abuse’, we mean prejudice that you may
have experienced that you believe was motivated by either the colour of
your skin, your religion or faith, the way you dress because of your religion
or culture, and/ or your cultural or religious practices. We also use the
term ‘abuse’ to mean verbally, physically, or in a written
or typed form, that you may have experienced; in either a public place
or on social media, to convey a threat or harassment because of your culture,
religion or ethnicity.
If you believe that you have experienced abuse, either online or offline,
your voice needs to be heard and you are strongly urged to complete this
survey. Your experience(s) will help to inform and change policy of the
UK government; government agencies; public authorities and institutions,
and perceptions of the wider public and UK media about the seriousness
and harm such abuse can cause, and the impact it has on the lives of those
who have experienced it.
This survey has 6 main and subdivided sections; please ensure that you
complete all relevant sections and required information. It will take you
no more than 5 - 6 minutes to complete the whole of this survey. This is
an anonymous survey, so no personally identifiable information will be
stored or used. If you choose to proceed in completing this survey, you
are confirming the truthfulness of the information you provide to us.
This survey has been devised and is being disseminated to members of ethnic
minorities communities in the UK and Northern Ireland in consultation with
faith and non-faith community organisations.
