https://twitter.com/MineMaarten/status/480787667844878337 Apparently Elo has asked for BluePower to be discontinued, and they've agreed for it.

Oh ffs. If they actually made a decent copy of the mod that can be used in modpacks, why not continue? Then we could actually continue playing modded minecraft without any new divides again. I am beginning to really dislike Eloraam...

Because people want to be nice to each other. (Unlike you; you're not being nice to Eloraam or to the BluePower team).

It's not nice to abandon your mod and months later ask someone to stop working on a replacement because you suddenly have interest in redeveloping a successor to the one you abandoned.

It's not nice to request people stop working on their mod. I don't care that the BluePower team decided to, but she should have never asked them to do it. That's ridiculous.

It's also not nice to make an exact copy of someone's mod in the first place.

Aren't you the guy who made RedLogic?

Why is it not nice? She wasn't working on it, and gave no sign at all that she would be again in the future. Seems very nice to me to provide a free service to the community.

It's nice to the community; it's also not nice to Eloraam.

Yup, so I'm never going to play RP3 because of this. Seriously, she has done NOTHING recently and she's asking others to stop providing a free service?

I don't care that they agreed, they're obviously fans so it would make sense they'd do whatever the creator requested. But it's absolute bullshit that she would request it and it's sad that people think it's a good thing that Elo would request that. Elo doesn't owe me anything, and neither do the BluePower authors, but minecraft modding is worse because it's seen as okay to request other stop making a mod.

It kindof shows why copyrights and intellectual property stiffle innovation and ultimately reduce the amount of products the consumer has access too. Once one person thinks of it, then they have a monopoly on that idea forever?

Actually, unless the BluePower team copy-pasted Eloraam's code or reused the artwork, copyright can't be claimed. Copyright only protects expressions, not ideas or concepts. If they really wanted to, they could (probably) keep working.

Yeah there's no legal ground here for Elo, but that's not even the point. Really the whole community should be upset that someone who isn't even around anymore has the gall to ask others to stop making a mod.

Exactly. It's hard for me to fathom the level of ego necessary to do that.

I'm no expert on copyright :) To me project red seems to be a direct copy of redpower, isn't it?

No, it was re-written from scratch, or at least that's the claim.

As is elo's claims about how she "wrote from scratch" windmills, even though they're nearly identical in form to one made by someone prior.

I see no reason why those claims should be treated differently.

I think it shows how ego stifles innovation.

I'm glad that they did this very kindly and agreed with her terms instead of arguing and being general dicks about it.

[–]Morinaka 8

They would have every right to dismiss her request and carry on since it is their code. They probably only did it to avoid any drama and people calling them dicks for being in the right.

I just wish a collaboration would be possible :(

I would have rather them just ignored her and continued making bluepower.

I like the way they went about it. Immediately go public with it to show she hasn't changed a bit.

Why would saying no not be kind? Seems extremely kind to provide a free service to the community. Why should they be considered unkind if they didn't want to stop just because some long-departed former mod developer shows up again for some undetermined amount of time.

Terms as in terms and conditions, or terms as in something she said?
