Nutella is so unbelievably overrated

I risk my own life saying this here, so I will whisper it....

This is how I feel about Bacon

I'm with you brother.

American bacon is horrid, English bacon is great though.

Isn't the only difference that the English bacon is usually a leaner cut of meat? It's still fundamentally the same thing right?

[–]Katculus 4

European chocolate is better than American chocolate, so I wouldn't be surprised if European pigs taste better.

It's not any better than peanut butter to me, which is to say it's tasty but doesn't automatically turn any food item into the second coming of christ.

[–]Galactic_kitten 10 ポイント11 ポイント

Peanut butter is a lot healthier, though.

calories are pretty similar

If you buy the normal full-fat varieties. If you buy the natural stuff which is just crushed peanuts it's not too bad. They taste awesome too.

Kirkland peanut butter from Costco is really good. It's a little bit on the runny side compared to commercial peanut butters but it tastes divine.

[–]Kroopah 0

That doesn't really matter though. If you buy natural peanut butter than it's full of healthy fats but yeah if you buy the ones with hydrogenated oils than yeah they're pretty similar.

Eh, speak for yourself. I've been eating it almost every day for breakfast since I was a baby. Wouldn't change it for the world. But you must also be aware that not all Nutella tastes the same, it depends on where it's made. I only ever had the Italian and Polish ones and there's a noticeable difference in taste between the two.

Whether it's from Italy, Poland, or the planet Cybertron...it's still just hazelnut spread and a slight taste in difference is not going to convince me it's the equivalent of Heroin.

Not to mention, for something so incredibly unhealthy (100 calories and 11g of carbs PER tablespoon), it's hardly the best choice given how it tastes.

Actually, it's more like a tale of six Nutellas (at least). The Wikipedia page used to have a table comparing the different versions. It disappeared long ago.

Here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Nutella&oldid=405544334#Composition

I live in Toronto so Loooooool of different dedicated supermarkets with stuff from other countries. I'm pretty sure I can access any of this so which would be best

This make me feel the need to source some European Nutella, because I have never been impressed by the US stuff

Ah well, to each its own. I've tried many other alternatives and I never found anything better.

[–]common_sense_here 2 ポイント3 ポイント

Hershey's version has 1/2 the saturated fat.

Yeah but that's Hershey's version. Tastes like cardboard.

Fuck, I eat at least 10 tablespoons of Nutella in one sitting.

compared to the alcohol we freely pour that is piddly numbers in the calorie count...

I hate when people argue like that. The "Yeah it's bad, but so is this".

no argument implied, just hoping to point out that someones pleasure intake (in whatever form) doesn't care about caloric content, or damn near anything for that matter.

just hoping to point out that someones pleasure intake (in whatever form) doesn't care about caloric content

Except when it does.

[–]______MACHETE______ 10 ポイント11 ポイント

Overrated compared to what? What spread or syrup lives up to its hype?

I mean, I don't think anything other spread or syrup really gets the same hype as Nutella.

Maple syrup?

[–]______MACHETE______ 2 ポイント3 ポイント

There aren't many popular spreads, but the ones that exists always get a lot of hype.

Peanut butter is as hyped as bacon.

Speculoos butter isn't as common, but when it gets mentioned, it gets hyped to the sky.

Cookie dough melts, kills and resurrects its fans in half a second.

Maple butter is the only one that is really underrated, mostly because it's expensive and it takes work to make it.

Don't forget cookie butter.

That's speculoos.

Vegemite

I Can't Believe It's Not Butter has less than half the calories and not a single carb (compared to 11g with Nutella). Spread it on some toast and it's delicious.

[–]______MACHETE______ 2 ポイント3 ポイント

But I love carbs.

Also, you really aren't putting ICBINB on the same league as Nutella, are you?

Edit: word.

I think almond butter is really under appreciated, tastes fantastic with the upside of being very healthy for you compared to a lot of other sandwich spreads.

[–]Phoen 1

Oh my...

Have you never learned to say "I don't like this" instead of "This is not good" ?

You can pretty much just go ahead and assume most things people say on reddit are their own personal opinion.

It tastes okay, but it's not that good.

Yeah well I love hot sauces and sriracha is shit.

What about Tobasco? Tobasco is still the shit, right?

[–]Sutacsugnol -3

I love hot sauces and spicy food. I always read how Sriracha was extremely spicy and decided to try it out. It's not spicy at all.... Like, not just "not too spicy", its a flat 0 on my spicy-o-meter.

Context: Southamerican.

Apparently, people really think Sriracha is spicy? wow

[–]Campfire_Lass 1 ポイント2 ポイント

I agree. People always RAVE above it and then I finally was forced to have some in a little snack pack with breadsticks. It was like a chocolate variant. No big deal.

brave

Is that what Dominos told you after being rejected? ;)

What does that mean? Also, I never ended up applying because I'm not the legal age to drive, which is 19 at my local store.

What does that mean?

It meant nothing, akin to your 'brave' comment.

Thank you, i don't understand everyone's obsession with nutella. You can make a very simple homemade chocolate sauce in minutes using a chocolate bar that comes out 100 X better than that nutella crap

While I do agree that everyone creaming their pants over Nutella is a bit overdone, I wouldn't call it crap. Of course there are better alternatives but it certainly tastes good and has its place.

Yeaaa...good luck incorporating hazelnut into that. Although I'm assuming you conveniently left that out, and not that you are just posting your uneducated, uninformed opinion to counteract the more popular opinion. /s

Oh yea hazelnut I forgot about that, what would chocolate be without hazelnut? What a horror

It would just be boring chocolate, obviously.

[–]Lilusa 1

Guess you're not a hazelnut fan?

I like hazelnut, I don't know if that is what makes nutella bad. It is crap because it tastes nothing like chocolate. Chocolate is such a delicate flavor that if done right can be amazing (lindt) but nutella manages to mess it up

[–]bastard_thought 2 ポイント3 ポイント

Nutella isn't a chocolate spread.. Primarily hazelnut. Around 50 per jar

It's not supposed to taste like just chocolate because it is a hazlenut spread. In fact, legally, the country it originates from (Italy) cannot call it a chocolate spread because there isnt enough chocolate in it.

[–]Noonehadthis -1

Yea I don't get the hype I hate the taste, and I too hate the taste.

Agreed. I make my own, it's so much better. Reading the label was enough to put me off.

For a quick and dirty batch I combine organic hazelnut butter, sifted cacao powder and a bit of maple syrup, honey or agave to taste. It's not as creamy as Nutella but oh my God does it ever taste good.
