domestic violence in the media

Soooo the Trending section of facebook says “Hope Solo Arrested on Domestic Violence Allegations” and a lot of other headlines are actually using the wording Domestic Violence. Incidences of DV, even ones that end in murder, are barely ever in the media and it is even more rare for the media to actually name DV incidences as DV. When Chris Brown assaulted Rihanna there were few/no headlines naming what he did as Domestic Violence. A google news search of “Chris Brown Domestic Violence” literally shows ZERO articles. Is it that because Hope Solo is a woman and being aggressive goes against her “female nature” the media is more comfortable naming this as DV? Or is it her lesser celebrity status (female athletes pale in status comparison to pop stars) that makes it okay to call her actions DV?
Basically, the media is really good at warping everyone’s idea of what DV looks like through their selective labeling and inaccurate representations.
