I can't really disagree with what the guy said that they have to enforce rules equally (equality under the law).

Having said that, I think it's a stupid rule and should be changed.

Yeah but where would we be if local governments couldn't use threats of violence to stop someone from storing books on their property?

to stop someone from storing books on their property

This misrepresents the facts of what happened.

[–]Washbagancap 2

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they had built a small bookshelf on their front lawn with a sign that said that people could take/leave/borrow books.

How does that misrepresent the facts?

the ordinance is not about how or where to store books. The books are not relevant.

The city bans buildings that aren't attached to someone's home.

[–]Washbagancap 1

Ok then I'll rephrase...

Yeah but where would we be if local governments couldn't use threats of violence to stop someone from having a detached structure on their property?

I'm not sure that really substantively changes what I said.

It substantially changes what you said because what you said before was wrong.

[–]Washbagancap 2

The point of my comment was to highlight that this city council is using threats of violence to prevent people from doing something peacefully on their property. You're being obtuse.

My original statement was:

Having said that, I think it's a stupid rule and should be changed.

Not sure what you take issue with.

[–]Washbagancap -2

I didn't take issue with anything you said. You are obviously operating under the assumption that I was. Reread my comment.

Can you point to the constitutional amendment barring such a law? It's perfectly constitutionally permissible to disallow unapproved detached structures. It's called zoning.

Who gives a shit if it's constitutional? Lots of fucked up things were constitutional, doesn't make them moral or ethical.

[–]Washbagancap 0

Where did I mention the constitution?

Threats of violence?

Again, you are wrong. Please stop exaggerating or distorting or generalizing... it is not making your speech any more persuasive, just making you look like a consistently wrong person.

[–]Washbagancap 2

Threats of violence?

Yeah. What do they say or they send a citation. Don't pay the citation and police show up and drag you off to jail.

How is that an exaggeration?
