The count for threads has been improved for everyone. It is less information at a glance, but it is more correct information (which can give more information with a simple calculation).

For comments with regards to RES users, it's definitely worse. For those that didn't use RES, there's no difference.

I would guess that the people using RES are the most active and important contingent of reddit users. I would be willing to bet a lot of money that the vast majority of those who buy reddit gold, for instance, are the ones who use RES. Anecdotally, I've bought 2+ years worth of reddit gold and am very unhappy with the change.

So tell the people who made the changes. I highly down they are looking through posts to figure out how people feel (I mean the comments). Honestly, the percentage thing does suck, but the automatic downvotes will be taken out which is great news for OC. Less OC will be immediately downvoted meaning people are actually getting a chance to show us their OC.

I did.

This isn't affecting the actual voting at all. I'm not sure where you're getting this.

There is an automatic downvote system in place. They are taking it out so posts won't be downvoted into oblivion in the first few minutes they are up. This should be good news for people who have good quality OC but are always downvoted.

The percent thing is stupid.

You really, really don't understand vote fuzzing. It doesn't work like that, and they're not taking it away anyway.

[–]brisingfreyja 0 ポイント1 ポイント

It was in the post they made. They are taking it away.

[–]hedgefundaspirations 0 ポイント1 ポイント

No they're not dude, go reread the post. Trust me on this one.

[–]brisingfreyja 0 ポイント1 ポイント

they are making it less dramatic at the very least

It says that there was a great number of downvotes and they are toning it down. I read that as taking it out because of how they said it.

Why are you mad that you are no longer being lied to with false/faked/fuzzed upvote/downvote totals?

I feel like most people still don't understand the how/why of the change... You have to understand reddit's anti-spam strategy, as well as what "Shaddowbanning" is, and 'vote fuzzing' is... So I guess I don't blame most people for not 'getting it'. Thats a lot of nuanced stuff to understand how it all works together... But The old numbers were a lie.. They were misleading you... They were fake... They were just as meaningful as a question mark being there...

so really: nothing changed... you just foundout you were being lied to all along.

Instead of lies, there are now question marks. It is for the better.

Clearly you're the one that missed the nuance. Vote fuzzing doesn't kick in until between 20 - 50 votes. For any small sub most chains never get there, so it is actually accurate.

I'm well aware of that, and is a fair point I suppose, but from the conversations I'm seeing nobody is remarking about, or aware of that distinction. Also, it really comes down to if a comment is being interacted with by a shaddowbanned account. It will still fuzz the numbers if that is the case, regardless of total points.

But I see nowhere on this page where anyone is demonstrating an awareness of the situation that deep... Just a bunch of people adverse to change blindly, completely unaware that this will neutrally or positively effect most of the most important and popular content on reddit.

And lets also not forget, while Reddits code base is mostly open source, there are elements of their security and anti-botting counter-measures that are tweaked periodically and kept under wraps to stay one step ahead of the game, so who's really to say exactly how it works. Reddit had to do what reddit had to do, I have full confidence in their informed decision making on this.
