If you do you will notice that where once you could see the upvote to downvote ratio now you are graced with the wonderful (?/?)

Oh yes but that's only a matter of time before another version of RES comes out. I don't really care that much about upboats. I just vote what I like and what I don't. How many votes it has gotten doesn't really concern me.

For me at least it matters.

When I see a comment at 1 for all I know it could be the most controversial comment in history but I will never know. I enjoy being able to see how many upvotes versus downvotes that something has and more importantly I like to see that in my comments.

Somedays a comment of mine will be at -3. For all I know the comment could have been hugely controversial and could have been more like (500/503) but now all I see is (?/?) and for all I know the comment could have just been downvoted a few times and forgotten.

Plus, who asked for this? All it does is take away from reddit. Gold added to reddit whereas this simply takes away and addresses a problem that was never there.

If you still really want to know you can sort comments by controversial. I doubt it comes up that often.

I've seen people ask for this heaps of times over the years, most often in AskReddit threads 'What is the worst thing about Reddit', people complain about shitty puns and joke comments, as well as people jumping on bandwagons, and suggested removing the counter to fix those problems. I've never really decided whether I agree with that, but the way some people are throwing tantrums over this change is just sillt.

I mostly go onto small subreddits to be honest and this has never been brought up in any of them. I felt taken aback when I saw this change. How will we know about brigading in the future?

Also, call me a narcissist or self centered, but when I make an honest well thought out statement (I know thats hard to believe but they happen) and not just some shit pun I like seeing the upvotes to downvotes ratio. its one of the reasons I got RES in the first place. Maybe I do get 10 upvotes but for all I know my statement could be (100/90), my comment could have been something!

Does that work for comments further down on a thread?

And also, how will this stop shitty puns, joke comments and people jumping on bandwagons? these are things (especially the first two) that don't really even come up on the subreddits I mostly go on.

Yup and then reddit started going to shit in the comment section and quality of threads when down to 4chan and 9gag levels. Shedding a lot of fat is not really a bad thing.

Right now your post is the most controversial of all of the post in here. You have 3 Karma, most people want to know if you got 3 upvotes and 0 downvotes or you have 1003 upvotes and 1000 downvotes. With RES we were able to see that, now we can't. People wanted to know if their comment post were looked at and made people talk about it. Did only 3 people agree with you or more. also some sub reddit, like /r/photoshopbattles, have contest and the comment post with the most upvote won the week contest, now they can't.

I get it but it really wasn't representative of anything since there was that "fake downvoting thing", right? So why keep a dated and misleading information visible for anyone if we can give one that's not that detailed but certainly more precise in what it's conveying?

Contest didn't tally the downvotes, so fake downvoting didn't matter and the fake downvoting didn't kick in before at least 100+ votes were made. For big Sub reddit fuzzing are a must, but for smaller sub reddit where 50 votes was a big part of the sub reddit aggreeing with you, now they can't know if their post was controversial or simply ignore and only 1 redditor up you vs 51 upvote vs 50.

Sure this change won't matter in default sub reddit, where the top comment is usually "Instruction unclear, dick got stuck in the fan", but in smaller sub reddit those were important to know if a post comment were seen or not.

Now it looks alot more like facebook "likes". If a big corporation add made its way to the front page and people saw the downvotes it would be bad publicity for the corporation and deter people from buying. Feels like reddit sold out for money.

You're making a good point here. I still think it won't change much even in the smaller subreddits especially because one would usually be less afraid to comment in one even if his opinion is different from the one of the OP, or at least I was, but I guess we will see in a couple of weeks/months.

For most people, I imagine that vote tallies aren't a huge deal. For me personally, I'm more pissed that the admins are entirely ignoring the pushback generated from forcing this unpopular change on everyone.

Well actually that's how an admin SHOULD act. You read all the feedback sure but you NEVER and I say NEVER go back on what you have done mere days after you've implemented the change because most of it usually are people that don't like change in the broad definition of the word.
