it’s cool how jimmy’s a playable buddy in stick of truth and a lot of the time you need him to get into secret locations and win boss battles and the other characters will stop the game to tell you that jimmy has a special skill that would come in handy right about now

i don’t think they always do a good or respectful job with jimmy but it was super refreshing whenever the buddy i was playing with would be like “i think you need a bard!” or “jimmy just texted me, he says he wants to check out this place!”

aww oh yeah and i don’t know if this happens all the time but in the final boss battle kyle hurt his leg and went to go sit on the sidelines and then jimmy was automatically subbed in and helped me win the fight

and tbh that more than anything was neat in a lot of ways. everybody gets sick and injured all the time, but temporary incapacities are never coded as disabilities, even if they do inhibit us from going about our business. “disability” is seen as more of a monolithic category, occupied by people whose incapacities are viewed as major hindrances in the eyes of a disabling society. so in the final round, your able-bodied partner hurts his leg and has to sit on the sidelines with an icepack, and the game sends in a visibly disabled partner with a whole bevy of awesome special abilities to help you win the final boss battle. fucking with the way we think about ability and debility. love it.

can’t believe i just wrote four paragraphs about jimmy valmer but there you go
