What is with the SJW types on this site thinking otherkin is a “disrespectful” belief? I just saw a post claiming that the way some kin say “beings” instead of “people” is “dehumanizing” to disabled and queer people who have been “struggling to be recognized as human for years.” [Nevermind the fact the a good portion of the kin on this site are queer.]

Human beings, you dense fool!
Everyone has something or another about otherkin that they feel the need to whinge about but why does no one on this site complain about or attack beliefs that actually hurt and use people? Like, say, Scientology or some guff like that?
This site confuses and infuriates me but I like most of the people I’ve found here and dislike how outright dead many of the kin forums are these days. I shouldn’t have to avoid the tag on a website for my own spiritual belief, either. That’s messed up and I don’t think people understand how messed up that is.
We need to take back this tag with relevant discussion and feelings, not just cutesy “all kin are cutie pies uwu” spam messages. [Which bug me personally, but that’s a post for another time.]
Did you have a kin-related memory? Tag it. Did you shift in some way? Tag it. Did you eat something today that reminded you of your kinself? Tag it. Do you have questions or want to discuss something in particular with others? Make a post and tag it, tag it, tag it! Don’t just submit things to the various—admittedly really cool—kin blogs out there, either. Don’t be afraid to hold discussion and socialize on your own side of things.
The kin community has never been particularly organized as far as I know. Even in the 90’s activity was sort of sparse and everyone mostly kept to themselves. However I feel like Tumblr could become a platform for discussion and unity if the community at hand could just focus for one moment.
I’ve discovered that fighting fire with fire really does not work. If someone in the tag is being hateful, you have two real options: Ideally, ignore them. If you simply must say something, kill them with kindness.
I pulled that off just yesterday by explaining to someone what otherkin was at its core and being as polite as I could stand. They actually backed down and admitted they had a bad experience in the past that triggered their behavior and then asked for informational resources on the subject.
It’s not going to work every time however, so if you can stand to hold your tongue just hit the Ignore button and go on your way. Report them for harassment if they’re a repeat offender and you feel the need.
The Tumblr kin community as a whole is looked down on with disdain by older members from what I’ve seen, which is unfortunate. And while I know many of you are young and still finding yourselves—I’m one to talk!—I feel like if enough of an effort is made we can turn this into a proper platform for discussion and community and clear up the cloud of stigma that seems to have settled so heavily over our little chunk of the site. I’ve already seen efforts made to make networks and other such things, which is a good start, I feel.
This, uh, ended up being much longer than intended. I just felt the need to vent, really, but I’ll tag this since it’d be pretty hypocritical of me if I didn’t, heh. I just really like the way Tumblr works as a blogging and socializing platform and want to see it used by the kin community to its full extent.
