Allies

tbh I have a problem with the word and the way it’s used. Not just by them. But by us too.

we

  • shouldn’t attempt to recruit allies
  • shouldn’t acknowledge “ally” as an ‘identity’
  • shouldn’t praise allies

because then it becomes about them and not us and they start working for cookies and not us

ally should be a word we use conceptually as a way of aiding discussion on the subject, I don’t think it’s actually a real identity tbh. treating it as a real thing you can be or aspire to be can be harmful

A true ‘ally’ will not require any recognition. They will simply help the oppressed because they are decent human beings with resources to spare for something they believe in. They won’t even want the recognition. They will simply receive back in other ways. Love, admiration, whatever.

Let’s not forget that doing good things for others actually makes you feel good inside. What more do you need?

If you need praise or cookies what you are actually doing is taking back from us. Think about it.
