I had a similar situation happen to me. I went middle school and high school with this kid who was a total jerk. He loved to beat up on and bully anybody that was smaller than he was, and he was a big guy. From grade 4 to grade 12 I never saw a good side to the guy. He was always a complete jerk.

I went to university 3 hours away from my home town. Was at a small, private birthday party my 3rd year when this asshole barges in the door and won't leave. He still lived in my home town but had come down to "party" at my university, ended up in the same complex where I was, and came into the party because he heard that a party was going on. He had no idea that I was there until he came in the door. He never said a word to me but refused to leave until someone threatened to call the police. The birthday girl was crying because he wouldn't leave, and he thought that was funny.

He died from a drug overdose a year or two later. People were posting Facebook statuses about how much he would be missed, but I didn't feel a bit of sadness for his passing. I understand that he was a friend to some, and someone's child and all that, but to me he was a giant waste. I know it's pretty cold to think of someone like that but that's how I feel.

Was he causing problems at the party or was his presence alone enough to piss people off?

it was more of a 'get-together' than a party. There were maybe 8-10 of us, and we were all close friends, not like a massive "invite anybody you want" kegger. He came in with another guy just to drink our booze and get in the way. I'm sure he was expecting not to know anybody at the party and was surprised to see me there. The birthday girl and her roommates (this was her apartment) all started yelling at him to leave, and he just got more rowdy and belligerent. He just wanted to be a pain in the ass.
