I wish stuff like this would get deleted off this sub. This post has nothing to do with atheism, it's more anti-theism. I'm tired of atheists complaining about the shortcomings of theists, but not holding the same standards of "portray what you preach" to themselves. The double-standards I see here sometimes makes me ashamed to be an atheist. Kinda like how most Christians feel when the WBC makes the news, or how most Muslims feel getting judged by the actions of Al Qaeda.

Edit because someone asked: I am not trolling/a troll. I don't even know how this could be construed as a troll comment.

This is your second comment in /r/atheism in 9 months... trolling?

How is this trolling? Just because I don't post to a sub everyday I'm considered a troll? I post when I feel like my comment might be slightly relevant and/or hasn't been said in the thread.

So you're really not just trolling and really think a silly comic equates to atheists being mean? Sheesh, you must be fun at parties.

This post isn't atheist, it's anti-theist. There is a considerably vast difference between the two. On one hand, you have the ideas, ideals, and principles of a way of life or thought. On the other hand, you have criticism and judgement against someone else's beliefs.

Oh please... At most its anti catholic.... But really its Just a political cartoon. its not even discussing beliefs it's discussing hypocrisy.

perhaps you are unaware of the specific US politics that this is referring to where nuns were advocating for women's health and were shut down by the bishops.

Atheism is not a way of life or thought. It's a position one can take in response to a question. Nothing more.

[–]SirPsychoSxy 0 ポイント1 ポイント

So is theist, and then that bleeds into a lot more. The answer to the question is atheist, that answer leads to more questions, i.e., what's a rainbow, where do you go after death, etc. It's not just a simplistic answer to a question, it's your reasoning for what you perceive your purpose(if any) in life is.

"So is theist" is correct. But "theist" is no more a "Way of life or thought" than is "atheist".

Which subcategory of "Theist" you fall into matters vastly more.

For example, there are forms of theism that are non-dualistic. You don't have a soul, you don't have an afterlife, there is no purpose in life... but there is a god. There are forms of theism that have explicit, formal requirements for adherence to that belief. There are forms of theism that are overtly nondogmatic, and therefore poorly defined and nebulous.

To attempt to claim that "theism" represents a "Way of life or thought" when there are so many systems that are mutually exclusive of one another within that group just entirely misses the point.

You should have learned long ago that getting points doesn't mean you're right or sensible.
