Great job! You look fit and happy. The negative comments in this thread are surprising.

Thank you. And while I cant say I am surprised about peoples comments on my appearance (it's the internet), I was surprised by a couple people being annoyed with me using r/pics to post it. I have just seen a couple things like this on this subreddit before and it seemed like the best fit on my imgur app.

[–]Obvious_Troll_Accoun 42 ポイント43 ポイント

And every time something like this is posted in pics 90% of the comments are people telling them not to post here and 10% white knights.

90% tell people not to post this here because this isn't the fucking sub for this type of thing.

[–]Obvious_Troll_Accoun 1 ポイント2 ポイント

Progresspics loseit.

The top reply is literally a fucking list of subreddits this can go in.

There is a fundamental disagreement between the commenters on /r/pics and the voters in /r/pics about the nature of appropriate content on the sub. There is a community of purists who believe the pictures should be of interest or artistic merit without back story. "I lost x pounds" or "My autistic brother who loves cats graduated high school" photos are really soliciting up votes on the back story and not the photo itself. Your photos are not of interest in any sort of artistic sense. They do illustrate a very positive personal transformation for which you do deserve positive attention.

The moderators of /r/pics do not enforce this purist interpretation and those who up vote rally behind storied pics. Any sub is what its membership up vote under moderation. The purists are free to complain, but as it stands submissions like yours are perfectly acceptable and rewarded.

And this is why I need to unsubscribe from this sub.

The pic is as interesting as a post of a turd in a bowl with the caption, "Look what I turned a hamburger into!"

Unfortunately, /r/pics default status makes it overly broad in its subscribership. You would be better served by a more specialized sub.

[–]Truth_Hurts_ 6 ポイント7 ポイント

The negative comments are because your post doesn't belong in this sub, it belongs in /r/progresspics. If you have seen pics like this before in this sub you would know that.

I don't mind seeing this type of stuff in /r/pics. I'm also subbed to /r/GetMotivated, so this could have just as easily been from that sub.

I never understand why people care so much about that. Seriously, it's like they feel betrayed, scorned, or stabbed.

[–]Misaria -4

Well, yeah, maybe, you know, I do feel a little betrayed..

You should have checked the comments on those pics. We hate them. Why would any of us give a shit that you lost some weight?

a couple people

Pfffft.

There are some people on here who are sticklers on the proper categorizing thing. I get it with some things like insects, or animals etc. But I don't mind seeing stuff about people in the 'wrong' category. It's subjective. It IS a pic after all. Well, they all are (pics, I mean) but I'm not the sharp guy who started the /pic/ category to begin with.

I interpret this 'pic' category to be more for people who are not quite sure where stuff goes.

It is correct that this is indeed a picture.

This, however, is where the relation to this subreddit ends. This picture has nothing going for it on its own, but needs a backstory in order for it to be interesting.

Sure, it might be interesting/inspiring for some people, but there are subreddits dedicated to this: /r/progresspics and /r/loseit. However, can you name any decently sized subs that would essentially be /r/pics without these posts? /r/Images? Place is even worse, /r/photography is more oriented around methods and phototechnology.

Most subreddits involving pictures are very restrictive, and there is nowhere to turn to right now, if one does not like these types of pictures. In turn, if these pictures were to be banned from this sub, one can still just subscribe to /r/progresspics and the problem would be solved.

Thanks for the thorough reply but I still think this /pic/ category is confusing to people and I gage it by the many mis-categorized pics that are posted in this section in particular.

Don't you think some people need to chill about this thing? It makes me think of the taxonomy and categorization done in bio and related fields. Even in those fields there are arguments as to where things (in their case- species) fit.

There are some people on here who are sticklers on the proper categorizing thing.

It's not that. The problem is that it is not an interesting picture unless you add a story in the title. So in r/pics, a pic isn't getting upvoted, a STORY is getting upvoted. This isn't r/stories.

Maybe its because you are not the only person losing weight with a story and pictures. Plus there are people who have had far more success than you, along with the fact shit like this is not interesting and just annoying to see. Go tell your friends on Facebook. Reddit is not the place.

Not surprising. Reddit is a bunch of unhappy dickfaces.

Man, society is a bunch of unhappy dickfaces.

Reddit police are in full force today. I'd bet half the downvotes are from fat people who can't get the motivation to lose the weight, and the other half from white knights who would be friend zoned hard by her.

U realise white knights would be the ones defending her right?

The value gained from the thread was her comment about the MyFitnessPal app. I'm trying it out now. The cool thing about it is that it ties into my Runtastic Pedometer app. I walked far enough after work that I was able to pork out on pizza and still have a couple hundred calories to spare for the day. I would have done that anyway, but now I can feel better about it.

That app has helped me a ton as well. I love it, and it's completely free.

Am a formerly fat lady, down voting the shit out of this biz.
